SANTO DOMINGO. - Barrio Chino stores closed their doors to protest mayor Roberto Salcedo’s decision not to allow parking in the zone.
The chinatown retailers say they risk going bankrupt after sales skid last month when shoppers couldn’t find parking to visit the shops, among them jewelry and department stores, supermarkets, restaurants and suppliers.
Meanwhile the mayor affirmed he stands by the National District’s disposition of bannig parking in the Chinese and Duarte Shopping districts, inaugurated recently.

Oh, really

OK, You inaugrate two new "shopping-tourist-get locals to go there districts" yet you allow no parking in the districts. I am assuming that the ever forward thinking government planners failed to locate any kind of parking lot , midrise garage, do it yourself park- it areas. Right? This is like building a sports areana and having super secret tunnels to get in

The chinese business people waited for years to get this renovation project completed and they were warned that they needed to get parking facilities, and they did nothing. Now they are scrambling to buy some empty lots to use for parking. Meanwhile the mayors office should compromise and put parking meters on or allow parking in the weekends and holidays and weekdays after 6 PM until the parking lots are completed.
Let's compromise please, the best chinese food and stores are there and its a beautiful area compared to the slum that it was a few years back were you would not dare go in there.

I think that they want to behave like the typical ignorant Dominican in doing what they please, Dominicans don't like to follow the law and order status, Roberto Salcedo is right and they are wrong.
