SANTO DOMINGO.- The Public Works Ministry said the construction of the Santo Domingo-Samana highway, at a cost of more than US$120 million, is more than 80 percent completed, said the Government on its Web site.

It said the highway will have two lanes, 3.65 meters wide each; a total of 12 bridges and four intersections, in addition to 3 toll plazas.

The company Autopistas del Nordeste, which has concession and the works, is currently in the process of compaction, and of asphalting the first layer continuously in several sections simultaneously.

It also advances in the construction in the two remaining toll booths, the first located 16 kilometers from the Las Américas highway and the other 84 kilometers from the crossing with the Nagua road at Molinillos.

Olle Basta, it's nice to see how people like you could care less about something this important for one of the most neglected parts of the country. This road not only goes to tourism rich Samana, it crosses many small towns and villages that will profit from it. Criticizing anything good for the comon people just because of your political association is why the country is in such bad shape. We have to embrace and support all the good things that come along to make life easier for those that need it the most, but then again people who ride around in their jeepetas could care less about those less fortunate. If you don't believe me, ask all my illiterate relatives that got rich with Hipolito and didn't do a damm thing for the community or the country or even their parents.
