BAITOA.- Road crews work at a fast pace in the reconstruction of the highway which links this municipal district with the city Sabana Iglesia, an infrastructure awaited with glee inhabitants, many of them pioneers of the Dominican diaspora.

The work to rebuild and repave the roadway, begun last April 25  during Public Works minister Víctor Diaz’s visit to the zone, include the highways Baitoa-La Lima, Baitoa-La Zanja-Sabana Iglesia-Boca de Bao, in addition to the Baitoa bridge across the North Yaque river, which had collapsed during a storm over three years ago.

The works, built at a cost of RD$200 million, also benefit the communities Goleta, Los Flaires, La Zanja Arriba and Monte la Zanja.

Lisa Pineda-Keblinkas, a U.S. citizen whose grandfather emigrated to New York in 1929, said there's so much road equipment in the approach to the bridge that traffic had to be halted.

The bridge and highway construction is expected to increase trade between the communities, as according to Pineda-Keblinkas farmers will find it easier to take their crops to market and trucks cam enter to better supply the zone’s businesses.

Agree with you there, that road must be reconstructed completely and paved well due to saline damage that causes, late last year, while vacationing, I also drove that road, and it was a long
trip due to the bad conditions of the road, and if the next government, whoever wins this next election wants to mantain an impulse the tourism , a vital resource of Euros and Dollars for the country, (although a lot of those dollars remain in their pockets), that road must be redone again.
There is too much gamble not to pay attention to that road, the north beaches of the country, neglected by all governments, however are the beaches for all the dominicans of the Cibao Region and the North.
