SANTO DOMINGO.- The presidential elections on May 16 will cost RD$2.4 billion, and if a second ballot takes place June 30, the Central Electoral Board (JCE) will need RD$400 million more which it doesn’t have as of today.
With a general budget of RD$3.5 billion for this year for current expenses and investments, the JCE was allocated only RD$985 million to stage these elections, though the Executive Branch assigned an additional RD$600 million allotment that began to flow in December.
Yesterday Hacienda minister Vicente Bengoa told Administrative Chamber president Robert Rosario that president Leonel Fernandez gave instructions to meet the JCE’s needs for funds without delay.
This year’s National Budget allocates RD$1.06 billion for the JCE.
Electoral judge Cesar Francisco Féliz yesterday revealed that although they need "some pennies" to complete the staging of a possible a second ballot, they’ll look for them “even underground.”
He said only on elections day the JCE will spend more than RD$200 million to pay personnel who’ll work in the 13,075 polling places, in the meals for around 42,000 Electoral Military Police agents and in logistics.

I can't wait until this election is over so that the next day we can start the new campaign for the 2006 elections and waste these billions of pesos all over again, instead of spending the money wisely.
Josean: (or should I call you RainMan?) In case you haven't noticed, most contributors here try to come up with original ideas instead of posting the same thing over and over again. Your constant Metro slogans and name calling are really getting old. It might be way above your intelligence level, but if you must contribute ( and I have a feeling that I speak for many people who would be happy if you never did again) try to add something new and interesting to the discussion

juanb censoring josean would be a mistake because his small negative remarks constantly remind us of our moral and intellectual superiority ...his constant whining and complaining should be looked at with bemusement and amusement....he is part of our mix just like the other quarter wit belial and various pompous air bags on the the far left

Don't want to censor him. Just getting tired of the same thing over and over again. I agree with everything else you say here. The problem for me is that for me the Rain Man character after a while got on my nerves.

Damn, Josean, you are good at times, humoruous in others, but too negative most of the time,
and as I had stated before, I had made it a point not to answer at your things,
indifference works better most of the time when all we read are "necedades",
and I know you are an educated man, I can tell, but when are you going to say anything constructive about things in our country??

I always appreciate you sincere comments. People may love DR as much as me but no one more than me.
I would like for you to see my perspective for the moment.
I get frustrated when I hear the Amen choirs to all of “Lie-onel’s” necedades especially from a significant number of people here who I know are much more educated than me, you included. In my opinion no educated person "con dos dedos de frente" can support this METRO unless they are PLD lackeys who are afraid to call a spade a spade because it might hurt their party’s chances and rationalize it.

I have close friends in the PLD who privately will admit to me that the METRO is a “caballada,” but they go along to get along, in other words they sold out.

I read carefully peoples commentary and the have very good facts and rational analysis until they perceive you are attacking their cause, then they become defensive and call you unpatriotic. How does the quote go “patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel?”
We constantly get barraged by all the "good" that this or that government is doing from TV, radio, their own spin machine ,that it is hard to recognize what country they are talking about. My interest humbly is to be a counter balance and point out the contradictions so people think more critically, a Dominican Gadfly if you will!
Am I always right hell no! Am I always effective of course not, but honestly, I am always SINCERE.
Again thank you for your sincerity and I hope you have a little better understanding of this nut josean!

I do , believe me, I do have an understanding of your words, and I know what you are trying to bring out , which is the same thing I know runs rampant in our country since the day it was created,
corruption at all levels of government, but we know this exist not only with the PLD and Lionel, this time he happens to be the President and his "camarilla de canallas", but in the same token,
haven't we all seen and know the same existed with all the other Governments, not one, not a single one we could signal as occupying the power for no other reason that enrich themselves,
like the country is their private banks.
I know your preference for Guillermo Moreno, and who knows, perhaps he could be the man who would change all of that, I only remain pesimistic for the only reason that he will have to obey also
the same reasons other Presidents have, the power still remain in those with the money to spend.
like you, I despise those who steal in view of all.

So the D.R. is a poor country !!!!!!! oh yes, my neighbor is very poor but we can trashed all the pesos we want and who cares the more we trasched the more we're love. Didn't you know thats only peanuts compare to the American Democratic Party Nomination, not to mention national election. One day D.R. will raised the President, vice-President and all others political appointees salary to Dollars cause , hey their counterpart make theirs in Dollars. What a poor country.
