SANTO DOMINGO.- All the EgeHaina power plants, as well as Itabo 1, 2 and 3 and Cogentrix went off line from the electrical grid yesterday, for low fuel availability, failures in battery banks and administrative ones, among other reasons, which in Dominican energy market jargon means financial problems, and has led to increased blackouts.
EgeHaina communications director Marta Fernandez yesterday said the company’s drastic pull out of its plants is because the Government owes it 100 million dollars, a number she said will jump to 140 million by October 25.
She said despite the Dominican State-owned Electrical Companies’ (CDEEE) pledge to pay, they owe three bills, and the reason why there’s no fuel to operate.
EgeHaina has no credit with fuel suppliers and since the bills pending weren’t paid the decision was madee to shutdown the plants, Fernandez said.
At 4 p.m. yesterday 124 circuits were off line of a total of 483, with a supply of 1,428 megawatts and a demand of 1,862, for a 432 deficit.
On Wednesday of EgeHaina’s facilities, only the coal-fired plant at Barahona (southwest) was operating, though it was off line yesterday.

well, a new take on the morass called electricity. maybe we will hear some counter horse ass reason fron Radhames Segura, who will offer that the reason we are having blackouts is because we had rain last month, or that we had an earthquake 3 years ago. now we know that the government, by refusing to pay its debts to the providers, is complicit in the problem. maybe if they cut back the number of deputy ministers in each department, they could pay their indebtedness so that poor folks could have lights!

In the DR, Haina and Itabo are large generators of power, both about 660MW or the second and third largest generators respectively, when they're not shutdown in a plot to blackmail the state under LF out of more and more money.
In the '90s, LF was full-blown, foaming-at-the mouth neo-liberal demanding that the state give ... not sell ... everything it owns to bourgeoisie in the private sector. The solution to all economic problems, LF preached back then, was give away everything to the bourgeoisie in the private sector
The state under LF in 1998-1999 privatized or, more correctly, gave away 86% of the generation sector, which included Haina and Itabo, to the Dominican and foreign bourgeoisie.
Like in the USA, the bourgeoisie in private sector proved it was many ... at least 10 ... times more incompetent than the bourgeoisie in the public sector.
Haina and Itabo now wants the state to buy back more depleted and decrepit companies that the state gave away in the '90s.

I am sure that the problems with the state of Leonel and his cronies are simply one of miscommunication since Director Segura of the CDEEE in the past expressly stated that the problems have all been resolved.
I am schocked, yes shocked that anyone can beleive that the Leonel governemnt with all his Cronies can be viewed as corrupt after all with the change in the constitution he will be Leonel Truillijo Frendanez

Nicaragua had a worst problem than DR with blackouts ... only "outs."
Nicaragua people restored Daniel Ortega to state power in 2007.
Daniel first job was turn on the lights.
Daniel simply calculated demand and supply and subtracted to get the gap.
Then Daniel asked the proletarians in the electric sector "What's the best and cheapest way to fill the gap?"
"Don't you know that, Daniel? I thought only stupid bourgeois didn't know that," proletariat replied "Go buy or rent some tractor trailer-mounted generators. Some have a output of 20MW. Nicaragua now totally generates about 589 MW and 70% is private hands of the bourgeoisie."
"Daniel, if you assign this to the bourgeoisie, they will steal the money. They're corrupt. And, for God sake, don't buy USA generators."
You can use as an alternative or supplement to the grid. Switch them on at peak hours and off afterwards.
Park the generator close to big consumers and move to a shelter in a big storm.
It worked.

The "efficient" bourgeoisie on the brink of collapse, desperately holding on..
Behold the "efficiency" of US bourgeoisie to run the US and world financial markets :
http://www.granma.cu/ingles/2008/....mbre/vier19/Reflections-19-2.html" 'Markets have plummeted,' the cables continue to report. 'The government has seen itself forced to nationalize the giant insurance company American International Group (AIG), and the Federal Reserve, in a coordinated action with other central banks, has injected $180 billion into the financial markets.' "
"President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil today blamed the international financial crisis on speculation, and admitted he was worried about the danger of a possible recession in the United States."
"Speculation!" From our timid Lula? Are you sure he said that?
Well, it about time he paused from carrying Bush's water.
Now, they claim they can run the electrical sector, too.

Lula said this about Brazil, but it applies more so to the Dominican Republic where the flow of imperial "advice" is relentless.
oooo
"He [Lula] concluded by saying, "It is with a certain degree of sadness that I see how important banks, very important banks that were always giving advice about Brazil and about what we should or should not do are now broke or have declared bankruptcy."
http://www.granma.cu/ingles/2008/....mbre/vier19/Reflections-19-2.htmlIt seems Brazil may not take the "advice" of the bankrupted US banks any longer.
I wonder what the DR will do?
"Hey you LF, although I'm bankrupt I still have financial "advice" for you. Now, sit over there and listen to what I got to say," the IMF and World Bank, the two biggest mouths of US imperialism, say.
