SANTO DOMINGO.- Electricity Superintendence resolutions SIE 140-09 and SIE 141-09, authorizes the companies Hoteleras Bavaro, S.A. and Amhasa Marina Hotels & Resort to become non-regulated users of the National Electrical Interconnected System.

The authorizations, the first the SIE grants in the Bavaro-Punta Cana region, give those companies the ability to negotiate the purchase of electricity directly with the power companies and distributors and save up 40 percent.

Hoteleras Bávaro, S.A. located on the Higüey highway, is supplied by the power company Consorcio Macao (CEPEM), which has a capacity of 9.5 megawatts from seven fuel oil generatorsm, whereas Amhsa Marina Hotels & Resort, located in Arena Gorda in that same region, also supplied by the CEPEM, has a demand of 1.8 megawatts.

The measure, in effect since Tuesday, attends a request by the National Hotels and Restaurants Association (ASONAHORES) and is expected to make the tourism industry more competitive.

"save up 40 percent."

Damn if these thieves are screwing the general populace. I could see a 10-15% savings....

But 40%, how could that be?

This has Celso Marranzini written all over it.

Radames rewarded his family and Celso rewards his business cronies.

The more things change the more they stay the same!

Meanwhile back to reality:

ELECTRICIDADLos comerciantes temen quebrar por los apagones

"Japa opinó que la designación del empresario Celso Marranzini como vicepresidente ejecutivo de la Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Eléctricas Estatales (CDEEE) no ha mejorado “para nada” el servicio de distribución energética en la zona. El nuevo intendente, consideró, no ha sido capaz de disminuir el déficit en el suministro de electricidad, el cual alcanza el 25% en algunos casos y se coloca por encima del 70%, en otros."

Josean; the opportunity to become a "non-regulated" user is based on consumption capacity. Once you pass a certain consumption level you are free to negotiate your own rate directly with any power generator. This is supposed to be, based on the law, a straight forward application process but in the past the authorization simply would never come. It is not a favor anyone is giving...it is a right by law for companies that previously has not been being recognized.

gmiller; the 40% savings they are talking about is probably 40% of their electricity bill NOT their entire operating costs. None the less, electricity is an unusually high percentage of their overall operating costs in this country compared to others.
