Santo Domingo. - Haitian truckers Thursday halted merchandise transport between Dominican Republic and Haiti at the Jimaní border crossing, keeping their Dominican pars from entering their territory, alleging the right to truck the freight to its final destination.
More than 50 Dominican trucks were stranded at the Haiti town Malpasse, one of which was torched Wednesday in Haiti and two others’ windshields were broken yesterday, said Blas Peralta, head of the truckers grouped in Fenatrado. He said despite the standoff, the Haitians demand the right to enter Dominican territory with their freight.
“If they don’t let the Dominican truck drivers cross into Haiti, no Haitian truck driver is going to cross into here, we want the Dominican government to understand that this isn’t a problem of Fenatrado, this is a problem of the Haitians, and we cannot let them step on us,” Peralta said to newspaper Listin Diario.
He said a meeting to discuss the impasse is slated for 9 a.m. today in Jimaní, between the heads of the truckers’ unions from both nations.
Jimaní is the border pass where the most freight crosses into Haiti, with more than 50 trucks transporting food products, rebar, cement and other raw materials daily.

We need to make the business industry to stop using Haitian once for all, they need to increase the salary to the national standard and get those jobs to our poor people in the barrios.
We need to deport all the Ngos that have not done any work for the Dominican people, those needs to go first, other wise the tigeres of the barrios will take care of them too.
We need to force the government to mobilize our military to the border and seal the damn border once for all.
