Santo Domingo.– Local taxpayers paid RD$7.9 billion last year
on real estate transactions, 50% of them were carried out
in the National District, Supreme Court (SCJ) president Jorge Subero Isa, revealed during a breakfast with
journalists who where invited to tour the new fully computerized facilities
of the Superior Land Court and Property Title Registrar divisions.
According to the official, real estate transactions in the Dominican Republic rank
third in revenues generated for the government, behind customs and
tax departments.
The goal of digitizing all property titles through 2010 is being achieved with Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) funding, Subero said. Property titles for 13 provinces and the National District are now
available in electronic form, an advance that came after the passing of Law 108-05 on Real Estate Registrations.

I am probably one of the most neutral individuals that visit this page, no political affiliations, no biases, etc... But the Metro comment by BASTA is simply out of place, it sounds more like he had nothing to bad say about the above news and simply had to say something negative about something... the Metro is built, is there and is running, so lets get off the old subject and bring it back only when there are relevant news.

lovingit,
I respectfully disagree.
We must never stop pointing out the waste of money the METRO was at the expense of education, health car, electricity, clean water affordable housing and all the other basic needs.
If we allow this to go as borrón y cuenta nueva we encourage the next guy to do the same in a never ending viciouss cycle that only stagnates the country from true development.
The PLD and Lie-onel Fernandez should be held accountable for the misuse of $ 750,000,000 in building it, plus the yearly subsidy of $25,000,000 a year when they still can not guarantee at least a full day of schooling to the majority of Dominican children.
This not only wrong, but criminal!

i guess is better if the money gets stolen in a large bank fraud. rather than seen at least some infrastructure in it's place.
kenn631,
Neither is acceptable nor should we accept it.
Criticizing the Dominican government is not tantamount to "hating all things Dominican" no more than criticizing George Bush meant hating America.
The most love you can show for your country and nationality is to not just to praise it when it is deserved but, even more importantly to speak out it when it is wrong and not to sweep it under the rug. We grow more form what we learn we are doing wrong, that from what we do right.
You see this is a tactic of those in power to try to equate critic with unpatriotic acts or hatred of the country. It is nothing more than defense mechanism to cover up their failures.
Remember what ole Samuel Johnson said “Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.” April 7, 1775.

"its just a humble opinion.." I respect that and mine are also meant to be humble.
You are so right the PRD, the PLD and PRSC are nothing more than the PROBLEM and a vicious reactionary cycle to stagnation at best, although usually it is more like regression.
I respectfully and humbly ask you to study and consider Guillermo Moreno, he appears at the moment to be the only honest and transparent alternative to the “Faro de Colon Metrolandia Syndrome” i.e. feed the masses with grandiose superfluous infrastructure projects to make think we are achieving real progress.

Metro is tough call.
Under-Expecting population willing to accept anything of transparent beauty or tangential functionality as great achievement, and reward perpetrator as great doer and achiever. Metro fits bill.
Come election time masses would only think about how beautiful it is, without considering full cost, then reward present administration with their vote for such gift. Can't really fault them-that's Dominican way, but I am baffled by outcome, nevertheless.

kenn631,
Remember where Obama was two and half years ago.
Not well known nationally running against the Democratic establishment and the Clintons who had controlled the party since 1992. The Clintons had sucked up all the big money early and moved the primary to earlier dates to prevent any one from become a serious challenger.
Then this one uncompleted first term senator, African-American with an unusual name, including the middle name of a man we went to war with twice Hussein. A guy who was too black for white America and not black enough for some African-Americans; put through the meat grinder by the Clinton’s machine and then the tree shredder by the Republican Party and their racist, fascist allies on Nut wing radio and Fox distortion TV, and yet he prevailed.
So I think Guillermo Moreno may have a shot, because his odds certainly aren’t as bad they were for President Barrack Hussein Obama the 44 president of the United States!
Remember we can move mountains!

Josean i just wanted to mention to you that the article you pointed out clearly states corruption in defferent periods of Dominican Politics. It does not specify during which government. Ofcourse corruption plays a role in the poverty of the country.

Basta,
The Lie-onelitas on DT define telling the truth as negativity. Keep speaking truth to power in all of human history truth always wins out!
