And corrupt do nothing politicians?

A $1,000,000 million pesos plus a jeepeta, free fuel, pork accounts and anything else he or she can get their grubby little hands on.

Oh and you can have dental practice in New York and rip-off the American taxpayers as well, via Medicaid/Medicare fraud.

WTF! Material costs are already sky high... Now the construction labor will be more expensive??? How will the average person in DR be able to afford to build their dream house?

That is bad.... I forgot to add the high interest rate that the people get if they want to finance the build. The only people building any new houses are people that have made their mony in the US or Euro. Everyone else can only build a casita de madera with the steel roof that always leaks once iin a while and cooks you when the sun is out.
I love DR, but it seems that the only way to move up is to leave, make your money outside of the country and then go back and build or buy a nice house.

This is such a joke, most construction workers in DR are illegal their miserable incomes are not even reported, the raise will not affect anyone's pockets.

etiennc01, you and I have had good discussion before so you should not be calling me a member of the perejil gang. I am simply stating the truth. The news of the pay raise makes the government look good in the eyes of the people, but you and I both know nothing can happen as a result because most of those wages are not reported anywhere.

A FORMAN EARNS $35.00 per day!!!!! Whoppteedooo.THis is sh--. this is peanuts for a position of this level. I hope all the things they build in DR don"t fall down such as Buildings and Bridges. I hope they get some more raises because how is this country ever going get on its feet and raise the standard of living. SLAVE LABOR????????????????

mrweepa1, slavelabor yes, just like the US. The difference is this is what they gross and net. The US may gross more per hourly wage. But when you subtract the state, local, municipal, federal, medicare, social security taxes, etc, albeit it doesnt work out to be much different when the day is complete and each worker goes home. BTW, the quality of construction here is much, MUCH better than the U.S. This is built for hurricanes. I wouldnt want to be sleeping in the central U.S. at 0300a.m. when an F5 tornado rolls through and wipes the house built out of tree limbs away, especially a $300K house that is worth $35K in wooden construction materials.

What is it that most of you on here want? Many both Dominicans and Haitians on here were asking for pay raises. Now that there is such a thing in the Construction Labor Industry in DR, it is being criticized to with discontentment on both sides. Thus is the dilemma of the Dominican and Haitian relations. Nothing can ever satisfy neither sides. What the hell, men!!!
