Dominican Authors Ernersto Saga and Orlando Inoa... Wrote in their book "The Dominican People: A documentary History: That Santana fails to be a hero of the republic because of his annexation to Spain otherwise he would be a remember as a liberator by all dominicans.

Look at DR's Political history and with Haiti's history you will they both have had almost the same amount of Coups and un-rests even Presidential assassinations. A total paradox in similarity in National Political built if you will... but someone as narrow minded such as yourself with your deep racism blinding and clouding you, you will not see it nor ever accept even the observation of it; thus a waste of breath.

The Dominican Republic has much in common with the nations of Latin America (with which it is often grouped), and some writers have referred to the country as a microcosm of that region. Dominicans have experienced political and civil disorder, ethnic tensions, export-oriented booms and busts, and long periods of military rule, including a Haitian occupation (1822–44), the oppressive dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo (1930–61), and military interventions by the United States (1916–24 and 1965–66). However, the nation's troubles have paled in comparison with those of neighbouring Haiti. The two countries have long been strategic because of their proximity to the United States and their positions on major sea routes leading to the Caribbean and the Panama Canal.

If that statement is coming from a Dominican, I would say it has exposed the great contradictory confusion DR has. Because, I thought the whole notion was to rather give it to Spain than to let Haiti have it, yet it was given to Spain but then again it still does not satisfy and justify the means and intention why it was given to Spain in the first place...?

Who ever stated this comment should stop while he/she is ahead because it is proven that such a person is in limbo and not knowing what they want.
