Given his background, won't you agree that Trujillo carried despotism on his blood? Edited on 4/28/2008 12:10 PM by Lautaro. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Agreed...his paternal grandfather was supposedly a spanish intelligence officer (he later became the police cheif of Havana, this Trujillo Monagas). Trujillo had intrigue even in his DNA, the dirtbag. |

What I also found interesting about your link, Lautaro, is that it seems that many of the families of haitian origin that settled in the Dominican south were actually of upper class mulatto origin. I've always assumed that the bulk of Haitians who founded families in DR during the haitian occupation were the simple soldiers of pure african ancestry. Also, the fact that most records in churches were kept in Spanish during the haitian occupation is also interesting. All this leads me to connclude that a more thorough and unbiased historical work based solely on the haitian occupation needs to be produced. |

Heck, I´ll wager that it would be absolutely horrifying to some (if not all) the elites of the country to suddenly find themselves having haitian relatives. That would be judgement day for them. I think this is something new for dominicans but haitians were aware of this a long time ago. Frankly I think the elite dominicans careless as long as there money doesn't stop flowing in. I find the poor dominicans to have a more hang up with having haitian ancestry. I guess they feel cursed, twice, not only am I a poor dominican but I have haitian ancestry. |

"All we've heard from the nationalist dominican historians that the occupation was worse than even colonisation. I have to say on the haitian side we don't have any information out about the occupation. All we here(I here) is that haiti occupied santo dominigo and that's it. Nothing that gets into details. " Almost every historical work describes the haitian occupation as a time when the spanish language was surpressed. That doesn't seem to be the case at all. Neither is there much ofa mention of colonisation on the spanish side by a significant number of haitian families, not soldiers, but entire families. There seems to be alot of unturned stones when it comes to relating that chapter in our history |

I am more of a today person. What can we do to rectify the problems between the two community. I think we have alot of undisclosed information that a certain group in both countries tend to not reveal for their own personal interest. How are the haitian & dominican community immigrants in the diaspora when it comes to the island? I am so sick of dominican & haitian relations that it get me upset at times. I think we have so much good in each country that we can also learn from each other. |

Jabao, I understand what you're saying about today but you can resolve a problem without getting to the root of it. Dominican and haitian relations are clouded by history. We would do ourselves well to demand that the record be set straight.Or better yet, maybe there's a historian in the making amongst us that'll set the record straight one day. |
