Haiti will always be my cherished country but believe it or not I actually admire the Dominican Republic for its great success at progressing for the sake of the people and its attempts to eliminate social problems. Your country still has some problems (including the Haitian conflict), but all in all it is a great country: #1. The D.R is a largely mulatto country. #2. Dominicans can identify with whatever they feel is their heritage (for most it is a tri-racial combo) #3. But it remains that the population in general if you visit there, does look much more black than white. #4. I don't really care but I'm just stating the reality of things. #5. Yes Haiti is a pro-negritude country, but not all aspects are African and many aspects actually are European and shockingly for some to believe, Taino. #6. Not all non-black Haitians are "elite" and many are middle class #7. This discussion in fact is really unproductive towards developing better relations #8. How did my thread about a railroad even develop into a genealogy war? |

How did my thread about a railroad even develop into a genealogy war? I beg your forgiveness, Shin. It was my bringing up an article about Trujillo's genealogy that really started this mess. I should have realized that anything related to Trujillo is destined to be a sensitive issue between both countries. Heck, talk about destructive capabilities, if the scum is capable of provoking this kind of strife being dead, I shudder to even think about what he was capable of doing when he was alive. And with that I think we close the thread, but what an entertaining ride it was .... almost as thrilling as one on a railway that crosses three islands |

You shouldn't have to apologize for stating your historical accounts and facts, views and perspectives Lautaro. The others simply kept on perpetuating the topic of Trujillo. Trujillo and Duvalier...the naive loyalist hard-heads might disagree, but I think it's safe to say that the island and therefore both countries are better off without their evil gracing upon our soils. |

To refer to anybody as a simian is an affront to decency. I really feel that you should not have re-posted that email, muchacho. I quite honestly feel insulted by it. Just for the record, I work with and have gone to school with many Haitians, some of who I would categorize as extremely intelligent. I know many a Dominican that can learn a thing or two from some of the Haitians I've met. Your nephew is obviuously a racist. Your posting his email has just denigrated this whole exchange we were having. "Don't ask me who's influenced me. Although, I'm still trying to figure out what he meant by "perrucho". |
