RE: Que viva el Merengue
"Hey cibaeño, which contemporary merengueros do you think are good and not getting the airplay that they should? Just curious "

I haven't heard anything that has gotten me excited in a while. What I mean by excited is that I used to listen to a new song and I would have to have it, own a copy of it. Nothing has brought me to my local record shop in some time. It's a sad state of affairs. Whenever I'm in the mood to listen to merengue I put on my clasico CDs and listen to the likes of Ruby Perez, Benny Sadel, Alex Bueno Sergio Vargas, El Mayimbe (of course), etc..To me those artists not only had elegant arangements but beautiful lyrics and voices to accompany said arrangements. These new merengues, yea they're cool to dance to but most of the music that's put out today by these merengueros would get no play in my home or my ride. Esto es un merengue:

RE: Que viva el Merengue
Hey you're right, there really haven't been that many good merengue albums put out recently, with the exception maybe El Jeffrey and El Torito (i like how El Torito made his last album half merengue, half bachata). It's funny that you post that video of Alex Bueno's "Amor Divino" song because you just reminded me that we actually have that LP in my house! Yep, I'm lucky enough to still have some great original merengue LP's, that Alex Bueno record being one of them!

Do you happen to have any DR channels on cable? On them you can actually see some good merengue groups from time to time that unfortunately do not get airplay here, for various reasons.
