Bad news for Red Sox nation A-Rod could dominate at new park By JUSTIN TERRANOVA The balls -- 20 of them to be exact -- were flying out of the new Yankee Stadium this weekend in the opening series against the Indians. Fourteen of those 20 homers were hit to right field, most of them over the W.B. Mason sign, whose advertising people must be patting themselves on the back right now. "It seems to really carry to right-center and right field so far," manager Joe Girardi told MLB.com. Alex Rodriguez must be salivating in Tampa watching what's going on in The Bronx. The YankeesNew York Yankees slugging third baseman, out until early- to mid-May while recovering from hip surgery, has tremendous power to all fields. And the new Yankee Stadium could become a launching pad for A-RodAlex Rodriguez as he goes after Barry Bonds' home run record and more importantly tries to help the Yankees win the AL East. According to baseballanalyst.com, 24.77 percent of Rodriguez's home runs are hit to right field. Of the 23 players the Web site lists, A-Rod is third in the percentage of home runs he's hit to the opposite field, behind Jim Thome and Mike Piazza. And there have been plenty of Rodriguez blasts that died on the warning track in right-center field of the old Yankee Stadium. If the first four games are indicative of how this stadium will play throughout the summer, then those outs turn into home runs and A-Rod can turn this new park into his personal home-run playground. Obviously, it will be easier for everyone to hit home runs (remember Saturday's game?), but even more so for the most prolific slugger in the game, who can hit the ball to all fields during any at-bat when he is zoned in. The ball only will go farther when the weather warms up, which should be happening just as Rodriguez starts finding his groove and catching up with the other players who started their seasons in April, not May. Rodriguez is in need of a big year to help fans forget about the steroid debacle that encompassed the team during the offseason. This new park might be the perfect place for him to do that.
