quien eres? forum introductions
New members appear all the time and we have no introduction thread. Moderator I hope you consider making this a sticky that stays on top of the forum

I'll start off with a bit about me:
I'm a 28yr old graduate in business & finance, work for an insurance company. Born and raised in Alto Manhattan in NYC, USA, and now I'm also a new dad raising a little one in the neighborhood. I'm from one of the many Taveras families in the Cibao from Licey, between Moca and Santiago. The fam as a whole is back and forth between our two islands (DR and Manhattan) constantly, and I'm surrounded every day by Dominicans from the homeland as well as 1st and 2nd generation-ers...so that's my connection to the culture. For kicks I like to read history & philosophy, and fave sports are boxing and martial arts.

Hope the rest of you keep this alive so newcomers have a place to intorduce themselves!

I was chasing work in the DR for my previous employer about four years ago. I made several visits to the area and spent about two months combined. My wife is from Venezuela and I have worked about 15 years in Latin America ( Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, Guyana). I began reading DT to keep up with local news while I was bidding the work in the DR and just kept it up. I have also worked extensively in the Caribbean, (PR, Virgin Islands, Trinidad)

Yo soy Capitaleño de nacimiento! Born in Villa Francisca, moved around often; lived in San Carlos, Mejoramiento Social, Ensache Luperon, La Duarte, El Conde, went to church in La Mella, moved to Santiago in 1961; Then, In 1963 > Moved to Amsterdam and 87 St...Then 139 st. and Hamilton Place, 184 st. and Amsterdam, and then 177 St. & Wadsworth where (lived 5 years) I finally grew up. From there moved to Boston (Jamacia Plain) in 1972, Back to the City in 1974; Joined the U.S. Air Force and remained in upstate NY; Where my daughter T was born in 1976. I then moved to Miami Beach in 1978; back to Boston in 1979....To NYC in 1980 where my son J was born. Back to South Florida, then New Orleans.....in December 1980. Moved quite a few times more. 1980-2004:
And I am now here in Florida. I thank God I've travelled for work and pleasure so often;
Life's too short to live in one place! My parents are from both extremes of DR; Dad who's 88 is from Barahona; My Mom who's pass away was from Higuey; she emigrated to the Capital in the 1940's.
My Dad grew-up in Quinigua, and as a teenager moved to Santo Domingo in the late 1930's.

I've studied at Northeastern Univesity (Boston), La UNPHU (SD,DR), Delgado Community College (New Orleans, LA), City College (NYC), Bronx Community College by 1987........

That' who I am! Let me not forget to mention that I decided to follow Jesus Christ's example back in 2001; I'm a new man, though I'm not so young. Blessed be His name!

Look! Just because you come up in here with your handsome new face posted.... It doesn't mean you get away with not doing this.
