I have eaten african food and I can't say that haitian food is african food although we can't the contributions but our food was created on the island. And how the hell are you saying cuban food is better because they acknowledge their african heritage. Negro you are so obsessed with race and stuck on colour issues. Cuban food is simply cuban food and dominican food is simply dominican and haitian food is guess what Haitian food. Please keep your race driven ideas off a topic that has nothing to do with where the dishes derived. Do you follow directions Wilgeens? French cuisine is well known world wide is this due to africans as well? Come on young man, what's with you? I have to say i have grown not to like you because you've become a straight pess destroying every thread making it some race jargon. Can you please answer my rebuttal to your other thread instead and leave this thread flowing about why dominican dishes haven't hit mainstream like cuban food and not where the foods derived. Thanks man and I am really praying for you.

All I've had to sample from Dominican food was mangu and so I can attest that it tastes great. From what I've heard Cuban food tastes great. I've eaten Puerto Rican food before so I can also attest to whether or not its appetizing and in my opinion it is. Haitian food is just delicious. Latin Caribbean cuisine is excellent hands down! Doesn't matter, the Haitian dish of du riz a djon djon (rice with black mushrooms), griot (fried pork) and bouillon (basically a Haitian sancocho), or Dominican sancocho and mangu, the Cuban version of arroz con pollo or the PR version of arroz con gandules..Latin Caribbean food truly flexes some serious muscle in the culinary world.

Actually, Wil, Dominican food have more african components to it than Cuban food. From what I have heard from some Cuban friends (and based on what I have tasted and seen), Cuban food is nearer Spanish food than any other country on the Spanish Caribbean (even going as far as keeping almost the soups that characterize the peninsular food).


So you don't say... Huh yet DR still neglect and try all that they can to abstain from embracing their African roots as DR's biggest fear os to not be Africanized. What an irony in paradox huh that it is...

There is this greater sense of contradiction that places so much oxymoron in many DR's stances on many things I would say. Also and to agree with you, I would imagine so myself the same thing that perhaps DR might or indeed do have more African taste to their menus, but it is the extra length of denial of emulating Anglo-saxon European influences that have pervasively invaded their minds thus creating this inferiority complex that gives meaning and important to the White skin over the skin of their colored ancestry. I did give a reference on how DR uses the reputation of Creole menu to name their restaurant Comerda Criolas. Give me your insight on that, Laut, because there are the Criollos which I feel has a slight tendency of difference to the Creole which I think they both might be different. In that case why most Dominican restaurants do not keep the word in its entirety because Criolas or Criolo is the definition for Creole as oppose to Criollo which to many people of Spanish descent interpret differently when the funny thing is the word is interrelated since it was a word to still name people of colors in former Colonial times for the local mixed borns with foreign ancestry. That is all French Creole translated in Spanish Criollo and in Portuguese Crioulo means.

We need to actually conduct a better research Lautaro on the menus so we could both be exact and shade better clarity on that. What do you think? Let me know what you have found and I will do the same let us say by tomorrow and to not corrupt this thread perhaps you can start a new Thread where we could compare or share information on that subject.

I would love to see Wilgeens going to Cuba looking for some african bondage and met with some guajiro with a white chacabana chasing him out off.. Cubans make dominicans look like saints when it comes to racism. They even had segregation just like the ol US of A which never occured in the RD. So please take you NGO and defamation propaganda to some other thread. Lautaro he obviously doesnt know nothing of the cubans. Well, if you must know, the term "Criollo" is actually used on the whole of Latin America when referring to something that is native of the land or country in question (as opposed to anything coming from Europe). Haven't you heard that the majority of the rebels during the wars of independence on Latin America used to call themselves "criollos" as opposed to the "peninsulares" or people coming drctly from Spain/Portugal?

You took the words from my mouth Jabao. It's obvious that he ignores the fact that, when the US was considering to expand itself to the south of the original thirteen colonies, they ambitioned the possession of Cuba even more than the one of Florida, not only because of the profits made by the Cuban sugar mills, but also from the fact that the Cuban guajiro had (and is still having, no amount of Revolution will change that) the same mindset of the old WASP southern plantation master. One of Thomas Jefferson's biggest regrets would be the fact that his government failed to secure the posession of Cuba to the US, going as far as telling that he would have preferred having that island than the whole of the Louisiana territory.

Simply dominican call their food "comida criolla" because it derive from them also referring to themselves as "criollos". Where does this denying part of their african heritage my friend. I really want to know. Dude what the hell are you smoking? I really would like to know where does african denial plays a role hear. Me thinks you are sick and stuck on race issues even when it comes to food. Jem'souviens I dont like Puerto Rican food that much I think all of the caribbean island have their unique dish and will catch the attention of anyone.

Wow, really!? THey have segregation there!? Wow, that is ironically funny again because they have a larger Haitian and black community there and the other thing I would say that because it is a dictator Communist Estate that may apply to the factor as kind of excuses in explanation as oppose to those other Countries which are claimed to be Democratic yet allows the mantra of national discriminations and racism. However I am shock right now... Are you sure there are segregation in Cuba, because most of my friends here are Cubans and they are way receptive to Haitians than my Dominican friends especially when there is an argument imagine what I have to go through and the Cubans are always the ones telling both of us that we are all with African blood and all that crap.

I have a new fight to pick with those bastards come this week end. I am caught in the middle of Haitians and Dominicans and I thought the Cubans were freaking the neutral party since I have watched many Cuban Videos, documentary they have showed me which shows a greater influence of the African tolerance there. Those fockers are dead come Friday (lol).
