it is louisiana in the south where there is still prejudice and some still fly the stars and bars. but there is prejudice everywhere, including here, where they refer to people they don't know as blanco, blanca, moreno, etc. and they hate the hatians, etc. i have been laughed at by everyone in the carrito for being a blanco and refusing to pay the rip off price the choffer asked of me.

Yes but no dominican judge will deny your marriage to a dark skin dominican girl.

One thing is prejudices, which everyone executes. (any introductory sociology class will teach this) Another is institutionalized racism and denial of rights.

Also we don't hate haitians for their color, it is for other reasons. If you read some dominican history that will become evident. Also the use of blanco, trigueno, moreno, negro, prieto, are relics of spanish mulato-ism just like mestizaje. Its a gradation not the one drop rule that applies in the US, which is worse or better depends on who you ask.

Some food for thought.

but you still hate Haitians.

Not necessarily, again it depends on who you ask. I personally don't.

Yet the hate that some dominicans do feel has nothing to do with race, it usually has do do because one is squatting on their land, stealing etc etc. Don't get me wrong poor dominicans have done this also and the land owners "hate" them too. So whether dominican or haitian if someone is doing something against you, well you develop strong feelings against them.

Last you must look at history, and the current non-aggressive occupation of border lands and destruction of habitat.

You are absolutely and positively correct. Dominicans don't have an ounce of hate inside their blood. At least not the kind of Hate the nazi or the KKK portrayed. It is just not in our nature. We are too much of a carefree, fun loving people and we look for every reason to be happy, not mad to the point that we find humor in maybe the worse of circumstances. But you express a well balance perspective of what true feelings Dominicans have of Haitians. There is too much inter-mixture in Dominican society to have and to justify any ill feeling against Haitians because of race. And never in a thousand years, would we have allowed that many of them on Dominican territory if we hated them so much.

This is what strikes me the most, the attempt to portray Dominicans as anything but what they are. If we were talking South Africa, Europe or even the USA you may see individuals or organized groups with extremist xenophobic behaviour, but DR?
In my opinion Dominicans are way too non-chalant and laid back about everything in particular the illegal immigration issue. Imagine if we had similar mindsets to Russians? There would be anti-Haitian gangs actively hunting down Haitians, people patroling the border like in the USA etc. This is one more thing that makes me extremely angry against the whole anti-Dominican crowd. It's my opinion that if the situation was reversed, we would seen at least similar if not worst treatment by Haitians upon Dominican illegals, there is no doubt on my mind and this is for various reasons.

You're right, there is EXTREME xenophobic feelings in Russia to the point of server violence against many foreign influences and people. It is quite possibly the most scary place to not be of the majority (especially in the West, if Russia is included in the West).

You are 100% Right, Mr. @USADR.
They just are using this Logic to put us on the defensive all the time,
meanwhile pointing finger at us "You Dominicains very bad boys".
I wounder how long that game will ever last ?

Maybe till people get fed up, and we start showing a very different face really.
We are very peaceful people but we can make a point and then ...
and I will be singing: no woman no cry.

Eastern Europe, in particular Russia is one of the worst if not the worst place to be if one is an immigrant in general and 'non-white/Russian' in particular.
Does anyone else find any irony in the following:

-According to Hitlers racist idealogy, Slavic people were sub-human. Supposedly he was going to use them as slave labor. Russians are slavic people, but many of the Russian anti-immigrant groups follow Nazi philosophy and even use the salute.

-Caucasian is an obsolete anthro. racial label that came about because supposedly the Caucus mountains were the original home base of the 'white' race. Yet people from this region are targeted by Russians who do not see them as really 'white European'. There's even a Russian name meaning black used as a descriptor for these non-Russian people. There's plenty of videos on the web showing these attacks but also I've seen these Caucasian people flip the script on the Russians.

On a related note, why isn't the whole race card used in the above situation, or is this only when it has to do with blackness (people of Sub Saharan ancestry) just like when the media tried to portray Sudans genocidal war on southern Sudanese non-muslim tribes as 'arab vs black'.

Absolutely and positively-I could not agree with you most or have said it better myself.

And could you elaborate further with your statement: "..........we would seen at least similar if not worst treatment by Haitians upon Dominican illegals, there is no doubt on my mind and this is for various reasons."

What are those various reasons?
