Thank you for reading my post. I have a question. Do men from Haiti hate American men? More specifically, do they hate American men from South Florida? I have a reason for asking this.

I am an American male form South Florida and I have always admired Haitian men and the trials and tribulations all Haitian men have had to go through. As a matter of fact, I would like very much to hear stories from Haitian men that have come to the United States and the horrible things they have had to go through…not just in trying to come to the United States, but the problems they have experienced here, once they arrived.

I know the Florida Welfare System having worked for DCF. I know the plight of some Haitian men and how difficult it has been for them to be approved by DCF, once they got here to the US.

I understand the pain and anguish that Haitian men have gone through and I realize they only want to take care of their families, but I encounter a great deal of subtle dislike when I try to communicate with Haitian men.

For instance, when I stop to ask someone for directions or to try and find a Dunkin Donuts. Many times a Haitian man will not even acknowledge me or they will turn away from me. I will say, that there are many nice Haitian men that are very nice, but for the most part, I get the impression that Haitian men do not like American men, more specifically South Florida men, because I know from experience, because that is where I live.

Is it because of the treatment they receive from American men and they just no longer wish to deal with us? I know there is a lot of racism here in the US and I am not one of those people. I have great admiration for Haitians and for what they have had to go through in their lives. Also, I have just learned that many Haitians speak two, three or more languages. I only speak one language, so I realize how intelligent and resourceful the Haitian people are. I know they love their country and that they worry about their fellow countrymen that are still back in Haiti.

I guess I am ignorant in understanding the dislike that is shown to me when I have never done anything wrong to anyone.

There are many Mexicanos and Guatemalans that live in my neighborhood and they come over to visit on the weekends to watch girly videos and have Corona. They too have family to care for, but they do not hate me. The Latinos share with their friends through word of mouth, so I meet new friends all the time.

One new friend that called and asked to come over was a Haitian man and I was very excited, because I wanted to learn about Haiti and the horrible circumstances involved in trying to come to the US. I have read about the smugglers and the drownings and it really pains me! Well, this Haitian gentlemen came over and wanted to watch the movies. He seemed nice at first and he was really enjoying the girly video. He did not know English and I do not know Creole. He was speaking Creole and I did not understand the translation. He still was very nice and was saying something like ageanoooo or something like that and I while the word did not translate to me, I eventually learned what he was telling me. But while that was happening, his words were very terse and did not sound very nice. I will say, however, I had no idea what he was saying, but I guess it was the way the words were being presented to someone that was in a somewhat vulnerable position, that really troubled me. Again, I never felt threatened, but I came away from that and many other incidents feeling that Haitian men really dislike American males.

If you ever have a moment when you can explain this to me and help me to understand how I can convey to our wonder Haitian friends that I am a caring and understanding American, I would certainly welcome your posting.

Haitian people love everyone....we hold no animosity towards anyone...trust me.
