Every immigrant group gets discrimminated on. So Haitians in DR are no different. How do Jamaicans feel about Haitians? How do people from Turk and Caicos feel about Haitians? How do Cubans feel about Haitians? I mean everywhere you go as an immigrant you are going to feel some type of discrimminations since you are not a NATIVE. Many Haitians lively freely in DR, study, work and great contributors to the country. Many Haitians of Dominican descent are key members in the country's political party. DR is not such a horrible place like Haitians want to point it out to be. Yes, we have our issues that affect all of the citizens but the country is no hell hole. Most Haitians live better in DR than in Haiti and that says alot!!!!!!

Haitians will never understand where Dominicans are coming from since DR has never occupied Haiti, they don't understand the historical grudge and fear of that happening again. DR just wants to remain independent and free. That's all. ALl this racism is bullsh*t. The issue btw. DR and Haiti is deeper than that. If race where the main issue than the DR would be in a civil war. That has never happened in DR and that will never happen. We love our people for being Dominican and we are proud of our culture.

Civil war did happen in DR regardless of little exposure or minimal it was. What do you call the Anti-Haitiasmos again, the Campaigns of Trujillo among other many incidents when every day people used to wake up and see bodies of Haitians in a shanty sugar cane shacks plantation field all hacked up by Dominicans? They have those events recorded in case people want to dispute them never happened. There has been Civil war in DR when many groups were being formed dating back on Pedro Santana time when the people were not even so sure of those up coming groups such as La Trinitaria and so forth.

However, you are right and must give you credit for that. DR is no hell hole compared at times that some Haitians do or are living at times better off in DR than they would have been in Haiti. Yes indeed there are discrimination everywhere but between Haiti and DR the complexity of the situation is rather ideological than it is fundamentally of true deep hatred thus it is an acquired mental issue created over time given the spins of the relationship of the two nations.

So you claim I am not a Native of the land and since I kind of grew up over seas hear in the US among other place I am not going to argue but I am sure I have lived on the Island longer than you have and also constantly going more than you ever have in your entire like no matter how Dominican you may think you are indeed without a doubt because my mother, my grandmothers are from and live there and own properties there and every election my mother would rather pay a plane ticket to vote on the soil of her homeland as she always put it than to ever send in absentee ballots in. and guess who always go with her and that is without counting times when I go with missionary groups and have been with the United Army to help in training DR's military.

On a more irrelevant point if I may instigate matters here, tell me why regions like BARAHONA, DAJABON, ELIAS PINAS, INDEPENDENCIA AND SANTIAGO RODRIGUEZ still carry flags that are spin offs of the Haitian flag (lol)? By the way, the DR flag is as well as spin off manipulation of the Haitian flag which you do not have to admit or accept that statement as I know Dominicans will never do (lol)! Please do not take this part to heart people (lo). However you have to give credit that they do so bare in symbolism a resemblance to the Haitian flags because those were areas where mostly Haitians resided in during the Dominican invasion, the War of Restoration and perhaps many other reasons why that is and lastly because some of them seem quite close to the border with Haiti. Haiti is all in DR whether DR wish to see it or accept it or not (lol)!!! This part wan intentionally intended to draw anger, so let us see how we all take it (ha hahh lol)!

Case in point, I am not ashamed to be part Dominican, just as I am to be part Haitian and before people lsh out on me for being so, I will never stop taking pride in knowing that as I have enjoyed no matter what and nevertheless the joy I get to have been able to know both histories of two places that with such complex love so much thus the Island of Ayti, Quisqueya or Bohio modern day Hispaniola.

RE: For Those Haitians On Here, Living In DR Or Anywhere Abroad.
Trujillo was born in San Cristobal, in the Southwest of the Dominican Republic. His mother, Altagracia Julia Molina Chevalier (later known as Mamá Julia), was 50% Haitian by descent, a fact that would later be suppressed when Trujillo ordered the massacre of Haitians.

His siblings, all of whom had power in the government, were Rosa María Julieta, Virgilio, José "Petán" Arizmendi, Amable "Pipi" Romero, Aníbal Julio, Nieves Luisa, Pedro Vetilio, Ofelia Japonesa and Héctor "Negro" Bienvenido Trujillo Molina. His childhood was relatively uneventful. His education was sporadic, with a few years at the Juan Hilario Meriño School and later at Pablo Barinas School. At the latter, he was a disciple of Eugenio María de Hostos. When he was 16 years old, his maternal uncle, Plinio Pina Chevalier, secured a job for him as telegraph operator. During the years up to 1916, it was rumored, but not proven, that he was a cattle rustler, a forger and an embezzler, working with his brother José Arizmendi (Petán).

RE: For Those Haitians On Here, Living In DR Or Anywhere Abroad.
I think some of you have made some excellent points and maybe we can dialogue without personal attacks. CarlosFranco, personally you don't know nothing about your country and just parading your bandera afar. Seriously, it isn't about your people my people since that isn't what makes money. If you seriously think dominicans won't work in the construction area because solely of lack of pay than you are not in touch with reality. The truth is majority of dominicans in that sector are lazy and try to do less work as possible or come up with some story of injury and still want to get paid. Listen the mostly foreign investors know who gets the job done and the dominicans making some money know that haitians work well and for less with no hassle. Simply because the needs of illegal haitian workers are more than the native dominican who mostly think of leaving the country or getting by TODAY. I think you've under estimated the importance of illegal immigration to your country from mine.

Funny thing is you have know idea who the real threats are to your people. OK let's talk seriously about well qualified immigrants from Haiti,Colombia,Costa Rica, Ecuador, Argentina not even mentioing the americans and europeans who are in competition with native dominicans. Now out of all of these immigrants the only one that usually are demanded to have a cedula our my compatriots and others are just as illegal as the haitian construction worker but some how the law doesn't apply to them because of many factors. If you go to UTESA,INTEC, PUCMM, O & M, UNIBE..these are universities in your country by the way that have many haitian students who pay out of pocket and contribute immensely to your country. They rent homes and charge more than the average rent in many cases, they shop in your country, pay for transportation, and go out which contribute to the DR's economy. Right now as we speak Caribe Tours is having a hard to time with the route from Cap-Haitien to DR because the mafioso transportation don't want this to take away from their mini bus routes that go there currently. Dude you have NO idea but you can think this is about identity or past history like NY4life has mention. That only applies for those trying to stir up the past quarrels and don't want to progress. It definitely is not just about race as NY4life has mention or the way AFroLatino makes it out to be.

AFROLatino, actually it is you that give these dominicans here a reason to get upset since most of your post deals with race issues rather the economic factors. Everything isn't about race my friend and the things you post here occurs in Haiti. Your mission looses its impact since you bitch and moan about the same thing. I am haitian just like you and I pray that you shut the hell up already. Im not even going to get into your identity crisis. I dont have to walk on egg shells here nor trying to please dominicans here. Think about what the hell are dominicans abroad going to help me with in the DR. Actually I think it would be beneficial to them to be nice to me or befriend me so that I can show them the DR on another level.lol.. I am not here trying to please haitians nor dominicans rather just trying to find an equilibrium to what you always seem to toss to one side rather then getting your head out of the dirt. You are causing more damage than good in terms to dominican haitian relationship although you swear your helping.

NY4life. indeed every immigrant group face some sort of discrimination on foriegn soil that's just come with the bargain. Now I can say the same for dominicans too. Puerto Ricans look down at dominicans, Colombians, Cubans and so on as well. We need to focus on the positive and yes we can't forget history but let it not cloud you from looking forward. Present day Haiti doesn't pose a threat to the DR and dominicans don't pose a threat to haiti. Lets try to do our part on each respective country and build a better economic relationship..

Maybe it's because of his soldierly upbringing that he's the way he is, Jabao. All these months out of the frontlines were bound to make him restless sooner or later.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

After reading all this all I can say to you all is LOVE YOURSELVES more than anything. No one is supposed to define your worth or give you vindication. You're supposed to look for that in yourself, first.
I don't care if society says your people are the best or the worst, no one defines you but you. Don' t let different cultural societies put a number or a value on you. This is for Haitians, Dominicans, Domincans who are Haitian, and Haitians who are Dominican or any other affiliations in between.

Just do you. Even if you do go somewhere with an army of haters around you the respect you have for yourself and they way you expres that can make haters fall back and listen and observe your substance, rather than your race, economy, and overall appearance. It works all the time.

If you love yourself than as a man you know you deserve peace and compassion- and what's the only way to get that? to give it back. I know this is not riveting, thrilling, or controversial- like some enjoy reading in this forum. Bur you know damn well that its the truth.!
