The Panama scandal

TV and radio journalist Nuria Piera and colleague Huchi Lora broadcast a report on the Panama press scandal (La Prensa) on their radio talk show yesterday evening, citing alleged links between PRD presidential candidate Miguel Vargas Maldonado and controversial business deals by President Martin Torrijos of Panama. Interviewed on the same show, Miguel Vargas' aide Carlos Gabriel Garcia denied that the PRD candidate had done anything illegal since he had a presidential authorization from then President Hipolito Mejia for signing the multi-million dollar contract for supervisory services with a company linked to President Torrijos. Vargas served as Public Works minister during the Mejia administration. According to Panama's La Prensa newspaper, President Torrijos has acknowledged that he was a shareholder in the company under investigation, but defends the legality of the operation. Nuria Piera pointed out that the contract with the Dominican government clearly establishes that the contracted Panamanian company was hired through a tendering process, when in fact no such tender was held.
Hoy newspaper's Que se Dice page two commentary mentions the scandal today.

ALL HOPE LEFT IS AN EMPTY BUCKET.
By Wilgeens Rosenberg

A forgotten promise that never appears,
In a country of constant neglect.
A sadness embraced by many fears,
A loneliness with much reject
Is all hope left.

Humor says "never mind" the quenching thirst
With that hunger begging for mercy;
Remember the inspiration that ran here first.
A help once given to you had no hypocrisy.
In returns, nor was it ever as empty.

Would these arms be open and beg,
However now they are weary and frail.
For salvation that came in empty bags;
Each time, once again joy has left no trail.
An Empty Bucket Is all hope left.

WHAT WAS SAID ON ANOTHER POST AND WHAT I REPLY.
THIS HAITIAN GIRL SAID: That's what most of us are afraid that will happen to Haiti.
Dense population packed like sardines in big skyscrapers on top of the other they are earthquakes and hurricanes hazards.

They are responsible for a deterioration of the soil underneath them and a higher amount of air pollution.

People will breath significantly less oxygen from the lack of trees causing all sort of opportunistic diseases.

Social and cultural problems will surface due to the noise level of music being played and family gatherings.

Haiti needs housing blocks with a distinctly Caribbean look with communal parks and town centers for community activities and big shopping mall with movie theaters at each ends. Was your mother one of those Dominican prostitutes who use to populate Haiti's bordellos.

Just Curious.

I do not see why you keep talking about the Dominicans on a Haitian blog, when it is commonly known that the animosity between the Haitians and the Dominicans is quite mutual.

HISPANOLANOYOSOY REPLIED: I take great offense into that, you calling my mother a prostitute. That is why with the set mentality like this that most Haitians have nothing is actually being done simply because Haitians can not have any debates, discussion without having to personally insult them and their intelligence. Here I am taking hell in other sites promoting Haiti, Domincan Republic and Hispaniola as a whole. Here read my posts there: http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/forum/dominicans-abroad/latin-america/43/DOMINICANS-AND-HAITIANS-WHAT-IS-THE-PROBLEM I have heard all sort of things, not once has those other people (Domincans) have gone this far to insult me or my mother. Haitians are the one who have damned Haiti, Haitians are the reasons behind Haiti's plights. How would you like it if I get into your mother's you know what? Just curioso. Haiti need to take greater responsibility as expect of Haiti to do so. DR is a neighbor and there is so much they can do. That goes for Haiti's dependency on other nations as well. Sure it is easy to Demonized DR, but what have Haiti done to improve their own situation along with their relations with DR huh; tell me. What most of you Haitians need to do is KNOW THE NEIGHBOR'S PLAN: The Dominican Republic.

HISPANOLANOYOSOY REPLIED AGAIN:

In Haiti, they have already cut down most of the trees in there. It is called deforestation.
The densed infrastructure is all over Haiti. The are are called BidonVilles.
ONe of the reasons why I post Dominican Haitian posts is because we inhabited the same Island yet we have this tense raw negative relation with each other that needs to be addressed diplomatically among both Nations on a neutral platform. I take it you have not visited any of the links I provided to read, also I see you did not answer most of the questions. But all I see people ever do is come to blogs and not ever say the project they are working on for Haiti themselves and how are they contributing to the change of Haiti.

http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/forum/living-in-the-dr/general-info/50/Boom-in-Santo-Domingo/3

WHO IN HERE CAN SAY THEY KNOW THAT HAITI CAN LOOK LIKE THIS ONE DAY WITHIN THE NEXT 20 YEARS?
http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/forum/living-in-the-dr/general-info/50/Boom-in-Santo-Domingo/1
WHO IN HERE THINK YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THIS IN THOSE PICTURES?
http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/forum/living-in-the-dr/general-info/50/Boom-in-Santo-Domingo/2

WHAT DO YOU DO HERE IN THE US AS A PROFESSION?
WHAT ARE YOUR PLAN AND ASPIRATION FOR HAITI AS AN INDIVIDUAL?
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE THAT HAS CONTRIBUTED TO ONEOR ANY OF HAITI'S CAUSE?

THOSE ARE THE QUESTIONS WE NEED TO ASK EACH AND EVERYONE OF US OURSELVES.
THOSE ARE THE EXPECTATIONS THAT SHOULD BE DEMANDED OF US.
THOSE ARE THE FUTURE WE SHOULD TRY TO LOOK FORWARD AND CONTRIBUTED INTO.

SO UNTIL THEN WE SHOULD ALL JUST SHUT THE HELL UP!!!
