Like Ladronoso, I would like to see it after a year as well. Has anyone heard or have an Idea if they have budgetd suffeciently for maintenance and repair????? That one point ALWAYS seems to be lacking in most Latin government projects Edited on 12/16/2008 2:19 PM by texasshoe. Texasshoe From Houston |

It's all very beautiful, i can't describe how proud i feel looking at these pics...I hope they keep it that way for years to come. Some of you may question the need for a subway in Santo Domingo when 80% of it's population lives in poverty, and though this may be true, i want to remind you all that this service will be used by those who are less privileged. The state will continue to be robbed by dirty politicians, at least now we have something to show for it. |

I know this system was built with guidance of foreign firms, but with determination and application of high service standards this could become a competence for DR. I won't hold my breath but it would be nice to see DR exporting a skill (mass transit construction and operation) alongside commodities and cheap goods. |

Working on public transport has often been the first foot on a ladder. Why? Because for the service to succeed many people must co-operate. Training is required. Memories of a Jamaican coming to London. In his village he was just competitive. It was a negative sum game - his fruit went bad he lost. So he sold to undercut his fellow Jamacian and saved enough to to attend interview for London Transport, About 200 dollars in those days. His sons now have finished university. s. |

How would you look after spending in yourself RD$40 billions? This is very strange. Why nobody is thinking about the necessary allowance? It was needed a lot of money for that project (and now desperately we need that money, so desperately some people is trying to use pension funds for government projects) but it is going to cost us RD$ 3 billons a year additionally to take that people from Villa Mella to La Feria and vice versa, while we still have transportation problems in the rest of the country. If you do not have shoes but it is so important for you to drive a Mercedes Benz then enjoy it… at least as long as you can. PR's Tren Urbano cost 2.5 billion, that is in US DOLLARS and i takes 100 million US dollars to run, and in my opinion, SD has nothing to envy of that of PR's train. |

If you say is 80%, then it should be 80%.... hey let's throw another 5 % just for a good mesure, hey let's not spoil our 'put the anything RD on the ground" spirit. |
