Me? Baitoa, Santiago Province

Baitoa is a town of about 10, 000 inhabitants that is located about 15 kilometers south of the city of Santiago. It's traditional source of revenue was tobacco and though this crop is still somehwat important in the area the town's principal source of income now stems from remittances, Baitoa being one of the towns that initiated the Dominican diaspora to the United States. There is scarcely a family in Baitoa that doesn't have at least one relative living overseas. The town has produced several notables included rectors of local universities, an archbishop, the current president of the republic (the Fernandez family our president belongs to is from the town), even a hollywood actor (Manny Perez). Many visitors to the town have commented on the physical beauty of many of the towns denizens, male and female alike. Surnames associated with the town include Perez, Nuñez, Valerio, Pineda and Fernandez just to name a few. Es un pueblo verdaderamente cibaeño

My father's family comes from Valverde, Mao. While my mother's comes from both Azua and Bani. It seems that the only area absent in my bloodlines is the east. Although I can say that I'm an honorary easterner, having lived the first 15 years of my life on the eastern side of la capital (de aquel lado del río Ozama).
