could not have said it better myself, Mirabueno. after the cibao, everything else is just dirt and grass.

Yes, el Cibao is the best and Santiago is my favorite city. But if this guy does not know anyone in he could get lost He probably wants to lay on a beach all day so a beach town might be best for him. If he likes adventure, then el cibao is for him. The best women are in el cibao

I really hope he goes to another beach. I don't want him to come back to the states with a bad taste of DR in his mouth

If you're a mountain climber kind of guy, then I recommend you to go to Jarabacoa. The scenery has nothing to envy to the Swiss Alps (germans themselves have told me this). Also, the girls are some of the most gorgeous looking gals on the entire island, and respectable and humble enough to boot.

RE: My first trip to the Dominican Republic
Well I don't really want to lay on the beach all day I like to get out and explore the town I'm in and I would love to learn about the culture also. I like to have a good time and be safe at the same time, I'm wanting to go shopping, eat at different places, and just have a good time. I wish I did know someone who could show me around. I will be in dr in december for three weeks so hopefully I meet some people who can show me around places.

RE: My first trip to the Dominican Republic
I also find it a bit odd someone would pick Boca-Chica as their first place to go to in DR. If your looking for beaches Boca Chica is not even near the top. Boca Chica is kind of a grimy beach for locals. It's kind of like visiting the USA and going to the beach in New York. New York isn't really known for its beaches.

You might have been better off staying somewhere else in Santo Domingo since you said your not really looking for a beach vacation.

Then your kind of place would be Samana-Las Terrenas. Not only will you get one of the most stunning beaches on the entire island, but you'll reconnect with some cultural roots too, as many of the people in Samana are descendants of African Americans that came to the island on the failed experiment in settlement of the American Colonization Society in the XIXth century.

I second the vote for Las Terrenas/Samana. Still rather undeveloped and not far from the El Limon waterfall where you ride horses for an hour or so to get these spectacular waterfalls.
