Santo Domingo.– The reinaugural of the Palacio de Bellas Artes, headed this week by President Leonel Fernandez, becomes a new milestone for the ruling party and the Dominican culture.
With an investment of RD$700 million, the refurbishing and modernization of the historical monument rescued the dignity of fine arts in the Dominican Republic, which Felix Bautista, director of the State Works Office Supervisory, now calls the "Metro of Dominican culture."
The National Symphonic Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Jose Antonio Molina offered a concert after the inauguration ceremony at the Maximo Aviles Blonda Room. The musical selection included the "Yaya" Overture, by Molina himself, "A la caida de la tarde" by Jose Dolores Ceron, and "Tres imagenes folkloricas" by Papa Molina.
President Fernandez received the book "History of the Palace of Fine Arts" from Minister of Culture Jose Rafael Lantigua, who talked about the poor conditions of the building, which made impossible for the public to have access to these installations during the last few years.
At the end of the ceremony, the attendants also enjoyed a theater play, dances and fireworks.
