SANTO DOMINGO. – The Supreme Court began deliberations near 10 a.m. Wednesday to set the date on charges of defamation filed by general Hilario González against senator Wilton Guerrero, after the lawmaker rejected the officer’s conciliation proposal.

FILE.- High noon came early Wednesday morning as Police general Hilario González, upon arriving at the Supreme Court (SCJ), warned senator Wilton Guerrero that there’ll be no conciliation until he recants on allegations the officer is linked to drug trafficking, in the wake of the murder of seven Colombians in Bani (west).

The ex Peravia province police commander said he’s willing to conciliate with the ruling PLD party legislator, charged with slander by González, whose lawyers called Guerrero’s allegations “unfounded accusations,” reiterated last night in the National Palace.

A conciliation hearing between Guerrero and the ex Peravia prosecutor Victor Jiménez Cordero and González is slated for this morning in the SCJ, where security was bolstered with elite Police agents.

I am afraid the good senator is like a white mouse in a snake pit!! and what makes those police officers "elite"? is it their bank accounts. why does the police dept. need any generals much less dozens, is not a Chief of Police and Police Commissioner enough? I hope the senator has some good (non-police affiliated) protection as I fear for him. Senator Guerrero should have the entire country stand up in a show of support for his couragous efforts to stop corruption and government complicity with drug traffickers. He seems to be all alone with his sword held high!

The baseball season is starting tonight. Sadly, if you really think the average citizen cares about anything else, other than baseball, right now, think again.

That is profoundly sad!! Good government and quality of life are not spectator sports! People need to get involved in bringing about the changes that will affect their lives in a positive way.

I would think that the Dominican youth would be way more interested in politics than baseball! Afterall it is economics, the hope for a high paying contract with the major league that attracts these young men to baseball, right? What pays more than Dominican politics? NOTHING!!!! The Senators, Deputies and Congressmen here make more than their counterparts ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!! That's not including "botellas" $1,000.00 USD per diem when away from home and of course you get to keep everything you steal. I think there will be a proliferation of politicians in the very near future. Maybe the DR will get lucky and a small percentage will actually come to the table with honor, ethics, integrity and the peoples best interests at the forefront of his/her agenda.

Domericano I agree with you 100%, but you have to understand that you and me see it like it is because we are outside looking in. The majority of people in D.R is uneducated and has little idea how to deal with corrupt politician, there is little social activisms against this cancer witch is eating away our country.
Also, if you look at how past and present governments in D.R ignore sometimes willingly the education systems in our country you’ll come to the conclusion that some powerful people want to keep the general population illiterate so they can take advantage.

I don’t want to come across as condescending or anything like that but once you reach a minimum level of academia you look at the Dominican ruling class a littleeeee different.

Old School, Sad but true! Unfortunately it is not just the DR with an agenda to keep the populace uneducated, the US among others are guilty as well. A herd of sheep is easier to mange and control that a pride (herd) of lions.
