SANTO DOMINGO.- The Justice Ministry yesterday asked the National District 3rd Collegiate Court for a 10-year prison sentence and a fine of 50 minimum wages against former president Hipolito Mejia’s security detail chief, colonel (r) Pedro Julio (Pepe) Goico, for collaborating with former Army captain Quirino Paulino, now awaiting trial in the United States on drug-trafficking charges.
Assistant prosecutor René Sanchez also requested 20 years in prison and a 20 million peso fine against Ernesto Bienvenido Guevara, for his part in the case of 1,387 kilos of cocaine seized from Paulino on December, 2004.
For codefendant Belkis Elizabeth Ubrí Medrano, wife of the former military officer and who is accused of laundering money from drug trafficking, the prosecution requested 5 years in prison, a fine of 50 minimum wages and all her assets seized.
The judges Alina Mora, Rafael Pacheco and Tania Yunés scheduled the reading of their verdict for Monday, April 28 at 2 p.m.
