SANTO DOMINGO.- After several months of intense campaigning the electoral campaign to choose a President and Vice president for the 2008-2012 period, came to a sudden halt last night, amid a great waste of funds in ads through the media.

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) officially opened the electoral process January 16 and concluded at 12 midnight last night, with the two major contenders, the ruling PLD and the opposition PRD parties, closed their activities via a nationwide network of radio and television stations.

Should none of the candidates get 50 percent plus one vote a second ballot will take place June 30, with the two who get the highest number of votes in the first ballot.

Reflection

The suspension of campaign activities 48 hours before the voting on May 16 opens a period of reflection for the citizens on the different electoral platforms, in an atmosphere uncontaminated by the constant politicking dominated by the parties with the most money.

In addition to prohibiting public manifestations and the broadcast of electoral propaganda by the media or other methods the Electoral Law also bans, 24 hours before the elections, the sale of alcohol up to three hours after the voting ends, as well as the bearing of firearms near polling stations.

There is not much to think in reality,
Dominican need only one parameter,
no more PRD, that class must dissapear in time,
I know they are a hard vote, many members have been 50 years in the party,
and those have suffered like the rest of us,
of course, those not in the cashing machine the PRD becomes.

I'm hearing many comments from DR that Amable has joined forces with Vargas to create a second run off. That this has been in the works quietly between Vargas and Amable. amble knew he wont win so he figured let me ruin the party. It's a amart move but vargas will show his true colors in the end and will diss Amable.

GC departed ... or, more correctly, was yanked away ... years ago. What remains is his obstinate and evil spirit which haunts those who still belong here.

For the young people in the early days of the PRD, what a nice title (Partido Rebolucionario Dominicano). It's only a name that had lost its merits as well as its status but that its still holding to and creating an illusion of the Revolutionary leader. The next party created to undo all the illusions of the PRD; the PLD (Partido Liberacion Dominicana/o). Its also a nice title to Liberate the dominican people, the question is to liberate them from what? From the PRD may be a good answer but that is not the case cause these are only names that do not do honored to themselves. They are all after the wealth that the D.R. possesed, its natural resources and its human resources. People don't reflect on this so they are driven by emotions and the persuasive powers of advertisements to take part in the selective process to keep what they got or take someone else to lead them. Many more will become millionaire and many more will sink deeper into poverty. One millionaire = thousands of poors.
