Repeating scene: squatters go in, build shack...police come out, topple it.
Zoom Picture

SANTO DOMINGO. - The National Police chief warned Friday the agents will act drastically against the people who invade private and State lands, and said the law will applied in each case.

General Rafael Guzmán said that the Police is responsible for protecting State and individual properties under any circumstance, for which they’ll  enforce Law 5889 on trespassing that stipulates that anyone who violates it can get up to three months to two years in prison and fines up to 500 pesos.

He said his agents were given precise instructions to immediately prevent land invasions around the country, and noted that 50 people were arrested recently for that crime in Santo Domingo’s Los Alcarrizos subdivision.

He said as many as nine of those charged in Los Alcarrizos could go to prison, and assured property owners the Police will continue to proceed against those who violate that law.

If they are poor people they will be prosecuted with great vigor. If they are rich, there will be insufficient evidence.

Indeed they shall be aprehended General,
laws must protect the private property that in thousands of cases,
come from generation to generation,
we have heard cases that horrify even the poor minded.

State?, well, that should also be acquainted, especially when government officials
from this and others administrations, adquire state land for prices that provoke laugh,
anger and exasperation, and later sell them for millions for their own benefit.

So , General, be attentive.

You don't have to be rich to have insignificant evidence, you just need to know someone.

This is nothing but a bunch of "BS" from El General Guzman.
If he does, in fact, carry out his threat, there won't be enough room in ALL the jails and prisons in the DR to handle those arrested.
I'd venture to say that over half of the land fn the DR occupied by housing is done by squatters who just move on it and build their shanties.
