SANTO DOMINGO.- Customs director Miguel Cocco today said many Dominican judges proceed “with evil and complicity” when handing down sentences against drug traffickers and smugglers.

He said those judges are doing such great harm to the Dominican Republic that they should be denounced.  "There is evil and complicity in many of the sentences issued against drug traffickers."

Cocco, speaking after receiving a donation of equipment from the United States, represented by ambassador Robert Fanning, said he agrees with punishing drug traffickers and money launderers with the maximum penalty, or 30 years of prison.

The official, said that the seizures made by Customs in 2007 was RD$200 million and this year that figure seems to increase which indicate money laundering is growing in the country factor of concern to the Dominican government

Cocco often rails the judges for issuing what he says are lenient sentences in cases against drug traffickers, money launderers and smugglers.

Courage is something this gentleman have had along his career in customs throughout several administrations,
he doesn't take bleep from anybody,
and if he is declaring this publicly, he knows what he is saying,
and have pretty good fundaments,
drug money is a poison that affect many people, and apparently, without accusing anybody,
also judges,
perhaps this requires a deeper investigation, nobody is beyond the law.

Dominican society needs to setup and denounce this. DR soceity is so use to corruption that they don't fight it anymore. There is no justice in DR and it's sad to say that a human life is not valuable unless you are wealthy.

A change in Dominican politics must be demanded by soceity. People need to ban together and fight corrupt politican, justices, etc. who continually hold the coutnry and its ppl back rather than help move the country forward. Society banding together to fight for change is the only way that things will be different.

Ya ta bueno cono.......

ny4life,
just a tip to be able to write the letter " ñ ",
press and hold ALT in your keyboard, then with the number to the right of keyboard,
click 164,
and miracle, you will have right there the missing letter in your keyboard, " ñ ",
one thing thought, it doesn't do any good with the numbers over the letters,
it has to be with numbers at your right of the keyboard, so if you have a laptop,
it must be a Dell 1720 or 1721 that have also numbers at the right.

whoever read this here, try it, it works perfectly,

again

Press and hold ALT, and then click 164, and you will have ñ.

This is a most interesting man. He would never survive an election campaign in this Country. He would be assassinated before his taking office. This Country is not ready for a life without corruption and honesty in government. Read the latest United Nations report, just published today. It degrades the Dominican Republic by portraying it as it is, not as the government and others want it to be. I have lived here for 4 years and another 2, before, part time. Changes have happened everywhere, very few for the greater good of the population. There is enough money in this Country to manage it very well, but it is stolen and pocketed and put to the wrong uses. This is a beautiful Country physically but otherwise there are generations of problems yet to be resolved. I am able to vote here and live here indefinitely but there is little to do under the mantle of those issues so well represented in the UN document.

What is fair in "justice" and what is "just" in justice. One who is involved with drugs and one who is involved with money launderings to get the maximum sentences and be looked upon as the scums of society. Praise the higher officials for the great services he wants to portrayed to his society. The people that do the worse harm to the country and to society get away with millions and become overnight millionaires -- no prof of that -- I got the Money, the House, BMW, Mercede and look at suits -- you can accused me of stealing. Doing it right in your faces but who cares his/she is a political leader they do only good for their country, they are the most patrioty citezens. When they get caugh they just resign for the most part, some are place in prison cause they agree to take the fall for all the others who will remained in their official posts. They are not the examples of a just society, nor are they patrioty they are more destructive than the drug dealers and the money launderer.
