The deputies turned to a conflict over skyscrapers as the one pictured to hide from the storm of criticism.

SANTO DOMINGO. – Dominican Republic’s deputies (lower Chamber) began the week as the country’s heroes for their initiative to impeach the apparently self-incrimated judges of the Accounts Chamber, but just Thursday devolved into villains for giving themselves a wage hike of RD$58,491 (around US$2,000) or 55 percent of their current salary

Faced with criticism from various areas, the Deputies Commission for Dominicans Abroad today asked the other branches of Government to derided the so-called "European Migration Directive," approved recently by European lawmakers.

Meanwhile, Deputies president Julio Cesar Valentin defended the benefits arguing that his colleagues have high expenses in their communities which cannot be met with their current wage of RD$113,000.

Valentin’s defense of the increase was further weakened today when National District deputy Librado Castillo revealed that a proposed 25 percent pay raise for the Chamber’s employees wasn’t approved.

Although the wage increase was rumored in the corridors of the Chamber of Deputies for months, it wasn’t until Thursday when Valentin confirmed it, arguing that it was in the budget and from the savings the lawmakers accomplished.

And yet another initiative considered a ruse to draw attention away from the wage-hike flap, another commission of deputies announced the impeachment of the National District Councilmembers who authorized the construction of skyscrapers in the exclusive residential sector Los Cacicazgos.

is that monthly or annual income...if it s annual it would be justifyable. But monthly that would be an outrage

Time:

You are forgetting all their perks and per diems and bonuses that bring it up to over 300,000 pesos per month. This while every social program suffers. This is a real disgrace. Not only that, but they have been receiving this increase since March and have kept it a secret till someone let the truth slip out. What a bunch of creeps.

Inflation is real but the exclusivity of cost of living increases limited to themselves alone is poor form for any elected official anywhere.

Tell those damm politicians in power in the DR to stop taking in all that money and raising their salaries. It wont fix the problem with the high price of gasoline but its an honest start to show their sincerity.

sadly, willmo, the DRis a glorious country, blessed with exquisite natural beauty, warm and kind people, and benevolent climate. on the obverse side, it is saddled with the most disdainful brigade of governmental and administrative thieves known to man. there seems to be not a shred of honor or dignity, as they steal with impunity. even the members of the legal profession, people whom you would think would be agents for some kind of civil order, are nothing but charlatans and pickpockets. it has got to rank right up there with the most corrupt societies on earth.
