Madrid.– Thousands of Dominicans living and working in Spain could be affected by the immigration policy currently being considered by some European countries.

According to the Dominican consul in Spain Marcos Cross Sanchez, the first to be affected would be an estimated 25,000 Dominicans who are there illegally, followed by nearly 100,000 who live legally in Spain.

The new migration regulations would force many of the legal Dominican immigrants to return to their home country.

The new regulations state that an undocumented citizen can be arrested and spend up to 18 months in prison, to be later repatriated.

Well mr. Harrington, if one thing could be said on the US behalf is that its inmigration policy is (currently) more lenient than the one applied by the different countries of the EU. Goulet, I have a question for you, is it true that foreigners can't apply for the british citizenship unless they have "british blood", that is, one of his/her parents must be a native of the british isles or the commonwealth?

Some strong policies for a nation based upon expansion and the systematic slaughtering of foreigners. Illegals maybe, but those settled and legal - thats not on.
Spain don't like it now they don't receive so much from the European Union fund anymore.
They preferred it when they were seen as one of the poorest countries asking for the handouts - however those days have gone and the handouts are now going to others and they have to chip in.
Awwww shame.

answer, a person can apply for citzenship if one or more parents where born in the british isles, i.e. england, scotland, norther ireland. It is for one generation. for instance if your grandfather was born there..the answer is no. this is true for most countries in the EU also

This 18 months in jail now that just doesn't make any sense.. unless the prisons have a work program so they can buy their ticket back to the DR.

For the most part Spain was inviting Dominicans with open arms now they want to kick them out.

Maybe their neigbors are tired of hearing Bachata played at unbearable levels through a bad speaker system.

How very Spaniardly and cowardly indeed .. after slaughtering and wiping out the Tainos in the DR and brutalizing native populations throughout their South American domain .. after plundering their natural resources across the centuries .. the Spaniards are now deporting the migrants from those areas .. not too different from the brutal policies pursued by their American cousins across the Atlantic .. I hate to sound like some of the Marxists and Maoists on this forum .. but this is REACTIONARY REVISIONISM .. an attempt to RE-WRITE history so that it paints the perpetrator in a favorable light .. hence legitimizing and legalizing even their most heinous criminal acts of Spain and the rest of that "European Union" .. most of who's nations have oppressed and exploited the "Tiers Monde" well into this new Millennium .. I fear and pray for my grand-children .. for they that must stare Shiva in the face ..

Football - Have no passion for football - grown men running about like dogs after balls. I find it strange and just a tad to continental - I'd rather eat strawberries and cream on he lawn, before a spot of tennis.

UK Citizenship - My wife (Dominicana) has just got her citizenship so I'm not sure what you're talking about. She can have dual. This isn't Spain you know!

Wanking - Compulsively.

The world is almost all capitalist, a rotten economic system which is a wordwide and tremendous failure with about 20% of the world living in what are called developed capitalist countries with various degrees of affluence and the other 80% in underdeveloped capitalist countries, mired in extreme proverty with famines, pestilence, illiteracy, homelessness, joblessness getting worse and worse everyday.

From rotten capitalism has sprung something more deadly, a bourgeois preference or relish for moral degeneracy, corruption, and depravity.

AIDS

Every year, over 5,000,000 people die from AIDS which can be greatly relieved with doses of medicine that cost US and and EU drug companies as little as $0.25 cent a dose to produce with hi-tech methods. The bourgeois degenerates in developed countries let all of them die ... without blinking an eye, charging the impoverished between $11,000 and $15,000 a year or more than 10 times their annual income.

Holocaust.

FAMINE

In 2006, the capitalist-dominated world produced about 692 million metric tons of corn a year. Corn is a essential staple in the world's diet. The lives of hundreds of millions of people rest on access to the corn crop. The US imperialists are biggest producers with 280 million tons, followed by China with 131 million. Then there is a big plunge down to Brazil in third place with 35 million.

With 692 million tons of corn on the world market, pockets of famine were everywhere and malnutrition ... rather than famine ... in many underdeveloped capitalist countries is seen as a blessing.

In 2007, the US imperialists decide to pay their farmers lavish subsidies to switch a THIRD of their corn crop from human consumption to fuel production.

Hundred of million will die from this intentional genocide.

Not enough corn. See? Get out immigrants!

"I don't care about AIDS and famine because I don't have it," the pathetic bourgeois sheep say.

Holocaust.

Like i always said, i believe the spaniards are just exploiting DR and other countries that used to be part of its empire. No matter what is said and done, dominicans need to take this as a lesson. They are letting the spaniards run and own everything, meanwhile, the spaniards are kicking them out of spain.

Remember that in the near future those haitians will be more then the dominicans in dominican soil. And stop believing the myth that foreigners own so much in the D.R., investment in the country is also being provided by many wealthy dominicans.

if its a myth arcatype, can you provide me evidence that shows the percentage of foreign investment compared to dominican investments. Most of the big projects are being sponsored by foreign investment. Even some of the wealthy families in DR are really foreigners who became citizens of DR. And i agree with some of ur concerns, but you must understand you can't bash haitians solely for the problems in DR. Unless ur a politician, what good is it to bash the haitians, when Dominican elites as well as foreign investors are exploiting them for the sake of building lucrative businesses in DR. The haitian immigration needs to be curtailed, but you should look at the politicians and elites who are not really solving the immigration issue.

Arcatype i doubt creole will be the language of the whole island. Dominicans will always have the east side, honestly, let us hope that the haitian government get its act together and that a good leader emerges in haiti. In the long run, a stable haiti will help tighten the borders and allow some of its countrymen to build up infrastructure on their rightful side. i think DR will reap the benefits of not having soo many haitians on its side. Its a dream that maybe far fetched, but then again in this world everything is possible. It just takes a determined individual with a plan and proper execution.

Who's going to extract that oil? most likely the people that explore for oil a developed nation with experts and technological know how. Is the Dominican Republic an oil explorer no! So most likely some foreign country will benefit the most from their discovery, but a percent ends up in the coffer of the dominican state. The best thing that could happen in those pits of disease & famine is for nature to take it's course...The world certinly can't go on feeding millions and millions of uneducated 'breeders' who contantly war with one another , we must allocate our finite rescourses where they are most effective, While one may cow common laborers to work for room and board and " the common good " It's a safe bet the pharmocologist & organic chemist who spend years developing those "cheap" AIDS drugs will not devote years of study to that feild if the only rewards they will reap is a new rice cooker or good position in the 'peoples parade' Like wise for any other technical skill that drives the engine of human evolution. Most under developed countries either by culture or aptitude have pretty much culminated to their apex. If there is enough arable soil/game to support 10,000 tribesmen in the jungle somewhere south of Hell, we are NOT doing them a favor by artificialy inflating their populations.

Contract work...The one thing wrong with Afghanistan , and many such desperate places in the world is too many people vying for too few rescources , If we just keep dumping grain and grazing them like livestock there is no incentive to rise above, and no natural 'thinning of the heard' pestilence and famine as horrible as they maybe are natures way of allowing ballance and allowing sustainable life based upon a reigion's ability to support it. And actually yes ,a surpluss of backwards and desperate people can destabilise surrounding areas and expand the suffering of a few to the the many "see Haiti". As far as AIDS goes If we can extend the life of a victim, How many more will they infect in that added time ?

The vassals of the imperialist countries are used to being spat on by the big bourgeoisie. The vassals, especially the middle class ones, like to be spat on by the super-rich. But some people who look up to the powerful capitalists are a bit puzzled and confused that the big, mighty bourgeoisie of imperialist countries now knocks down their obsequious and cringing vassals, then for no reason the big bourgeoisie jumbs on the vassal, as the vassal lay flat on the floor, and stomps and stomps the fawning vassal who, from the floor, assures the stomping capitalist that the vassal himself deserves to be knocked down and stomped.

Immigrants are the often the most cringing, fawning, groveling, and obsequious of colonial vassals who are blindly in love with the super-rich imperialists.

"Imperialist and colonial master, although you spat on me, knock me down, and stomped me, I still love you very much," the servile vassal tells the boss.

I am Haitian as well as I am Dominican Rubi... So go ahead call me Haitian just because as a Dominican-Haitian I oppose your racist views. And you my friend perhaps may need history lesson on Haiti. Point is, as Dominicans we should have been immune to this kind of treatment from other Countries since the average mentality of most Dominicans is to kick all the Haitian ou because you do not want Haitian to Africanize Dr right? Well maybe Spain which DR and a lot of Spanish speaking Latin-American Countries glorify so much, perhaps feels the very same way about Dominicans

LOL Mother Spain is kicking you out Rubi. I thought she loved you. You were his favorite. Oh No! How could this be? Spain is kicking its favorite child out the door. with possibly an 18months grounding before that. BAD, BAD, BAD, DR. You should be spanked. I guess the IC's are going to start treating Dominicans like Dominicans treat Haitians.

Don't forget about the Manifestation this week in front of the Consulate in NY. I will be there with my little pickette sign. Maybe I should bring the one that says ABA RUBI. I made that one just for you rubi.

I used to say why don't you go back to Spain even Spain doesn't want you Dominicans.

You will never see France sending Haitians back like that because France is the motherland and she truly loves us unlike lets say thos people that claimed their motherlands care about them but yet kick them out like yesterdays trash.

This planet belongs to all humans, in the higher end of existence there are no borders and there are no rulers even though many conditions and problems facing humans are also experience in pthe higher end. Self-fishedness is what influnces most in any upward society whose economic motor begins to overtake others such as the U.S. dollar. Its simple they don't want to share the wealth with non-citezens but they kept silent when they needed their srvices. Immigration is a business, -- very big business that brings in to countries such as the U.S billions of dollars yearly both in inside the U.S. and [throghout all of their Consulates and Embassies around the world -- now the E.U. is following in the same direction to increment its immigration business. A person should not be made to paid or take some test to become a citezen -- a social security card is not paid for but thats O'K cause when you go to work -- Mr. Taxes will paid for it. One day everyone will have to paid for it.

Mr. E.U. is just making a move that is in fashion and to established more costly laws that will put more mony - EURO in their tresuries. This is an injustice committed by powerful countries against the working people that just want to improved their standards of living while selecting some country other than their origin to work and lived. Everyone should have that opportunity and of course if there are some violations of the laws or the individual became involved with some criminal activities that individual will had ruin its own chances and should be deported. The question is, what about those who are citezen not born to an inmigrant that violates the laws -- its O'K. This is the injust of the laws in the U.S. its O'K for their criminals to go in and out of prison. Immigration is about the money ---- nothing more, becoming a citezen today is about money and an illusion- VOTE What is patriotism and who is patriotic, that may had existed at some point in history but is no longer true.

Your making an argument for me that I never made "pappa". I never called for feeding anyone. Unfortunate things happen to certain populations from time to time but that doesn't mean one should advocate for such misfortunes as being beneficial as you have done. Let me repost the segment of your original post, which you have altered since then, that I had a problem with:

"The world certinly can't go on feeding millions and millions of uneducated 'breeders' who contantly war with one another ""

I find it extremely hypocritical that someone who is chastising "uneducated breeders" for warring with one another is himself a war profiteer. The fact that you would refer to human beings as "uneducated breeders" is a wonderful insight into the type of person you are. What you calls balls and brains I call guile and arrogance.

gentlemen, i guess things are becoming a little clearer for you now. remember the word ¨biosphere¨whenever you analyse things. i posted before that the lifestyle of europeans dictates that each person needs roughly 4.6 hectares of biosphere to continue to exist in his or her current condition. at present, that figure is only around 2.8 hectares. one way to combat this deficiency is to thin the population, and what better way than to kick out the immigrants. the lovers of Spain now see the realities of realpolitik. there is no such thing as a ¨motherland¨when the chips are down.as to the poster who refers to Spain as owning ¨a few hotels¨, might i remind him or her that 66% of all hotel space in the country does not constitute ä few hotels¨ that, by elementary arithmetic, translates to two thirds. combine with that the fact that most of the high level administrative personnel are foreigners and you will understand the degree of ownership.

Well, this is the point many of us have been trying to prove in here each time defame remarks were made about Haiti. The same way a Dominican feels when defame words are said about DR you should imagine that is how anyone from any Country would feel whether they were Haitian or Dominican or whatever, you see... What I have been trying to say is while we DR & Haiti are wasting time placing blame hating each other we are both not the ones to blame for those differences that were passed on to us by those who had division intent in mind. Spain and France are the one exploited and benefited from this division yet we never demonize them for their Atrocities instead they are glorified. A paradox I could never understand. Is there something you want to tell us all big boy?

As for Drake - he had nothing against Dominicans. He just detested the Spanish. Why wouldn't he when they were always threatening England with their greed and silly religions? Good old Henry the Eighth gave the Catholic Pope a middle digit to swivel upon. Good on him, someone needed to stand up to all those two faced religious types in Rome.
SPANISH - "Oh no those English won't be catholic and send us their money"
ENGLISH - "No we won't, so what, what you going to do about it?"
SPANISH - "We'll invade your island and bring our silly moustaches and beards with us"
DRAKE - "I'm here waiting Pedro - give us your worst"
SPANISH - "Gulp, gulp, gulp, Diego I'm drowning"
DRAKE - "Job done men, anyone for a quick beer down at the Drowning Spaniard public house"

More realistic history - They killed his brother, just a boy, for no reason at all - He vowed from that day on he'd create as much trouble for the Spanish as he possibly could. I like that, shows some balls.
He was also the first Captain to navigate his crew around the world.
Magellan gets the credit - except going out alive and coming back dead - for me isn't really going around the world. Cheater.

Drake is great - a little dodgy and a bit of a rogue but fantastic anyway.
His attack on Santo Domingo was quite funny to read about.

In other words, if the economy worsens, kick the immigrants, legal and illegal, out.

Evidently, this is not just Spain's view, it's also the EU's.

And perhaps, John McCain ... who has shifted his position of immigration to the far right to win conservative support ... also believes in the EU's policy.

Dominican Americans often show more interest in Dominican politics than in US politics.

If they and kinfolk want to stay in the USA, they better get their priorities straight before November.
