SANTO DOMINGO. - President Leonel Fernandez asked Adriano Espaillat, a New York State assemblyman of Dominican origin, and lawmakers from 26 other states to press the U.S. Congress on the debates to impose more controls over the companies specializing in speculative funds, aimed at lowering oil prices.

“The President’s initiative and the collaboration between us and the Dominican Republic are an effective and modern way to see how developing countries can have a voice in the debate on how to control the price of oil," Espaillat told newspaper Diario Libre by telephone from New York.

Last night Fernandez said he would launch an international offensive to reduce oil prices, and with an initiative to be discussed in the U.S. Congress.

Espaillat said he recently spoke with Fernandez about oil and gasoline and asked him what Dominicans in the United States could do to help their compatriots here.

The assemblyman, who represents Upper Manhattan, home to the largest Dominican community abroad, didn’t know Fernandez had mentioned him in last night’s press conference.

Wow! LF is moving outside, FIRST with his bloc of countries and NOW with the elected public leaders of 1.2 million Dominican Americans in the USA.

From a legal point of view this step with the Dominican Americans however is something of a minefield to which only Zionist Americans and Cuban Americans are immune. A whole bunch of imperialist repression is right around the corner -- unregistered foreign agents, political agents of foreign principal, interference with electoral and legislative processes.

If you're a Zionist land thief or a Cuban American lunatic, you can do all of these things. But if you're not, then talk to a good lawyer before you make your move. The dirty FBI will send agent provocateurs to set you up under these repressive laws.

It's not what you do, but the way you do it.

Dominican Americans and DRs have a common interest in this struggle other than national origin, both are being screwed - for real - by gas prices, unless it's only "in their minds."

The DAs electoral turn-outs are generally less than overwhelming.

But the DAs, in the community (not the swanky estates), are politically and ideologically allied with two powerful groups -- (1) the AAs bunched, in NYC, loosely around US Rep. Charles Rangel who is good on Latin American/Caribbean issues, and (2) the PRs loosely around US Rep. Jose Serrano who is excellent on Latin American/Caribbean issues.

I don't believe any one DA elected public officials has, as yet, the degee of eminence with his base that Rangel and Serrano have with theirs.

The AAs and the PRs are close to Obama although in the NY primary only 80% of the AAs voted for Obama (rather the usual 90%) and 67% of the PRs voted for Clinton. It's more dfficult to identify the DAs in the electorate. Many called DAs PRs.

Like LF, Obama calls for regulation of oil speculators jacking up oil prices.

A potential exists for a electoral and legislative force around gas prices.

The timing is exquisite.

When controls on speculators fail to rein in prices who will you blame then Belial? Why delay necessary suffering and leave it up to our children when we are the ones addicted to oil?

Also as you seem to be such a knowledgeable theorist please explain to me how a world of command economies would address peak oil and how that would differ from speculators making the call and weaning us off of oil ASAP?

sadly, Espaillat cannot ¨press¨the US congress on anything. he is a state assemblyman. he is very low in the elected political pecking order, and does his work in Albany. maybe he can get some surrogates in Congress to act in his behalf, but he, by himself, has absolutely no clout in Washington. we are not talking Serrano and Rangel here.

GC, you are a schizoid or schizo, who jumps around in or assumes various nationalities, races, genders, and persona.

At first, I believe you were only a double.

But now with your new transformations, you seem to be at least a triple or quadruple.

GC, how many individuals are in your persona?

Do they like each other?

If they don't, do they fight often?

Do they talk about each other?

To be fair, Obama is hardly the first politician to attempt to be all things to all people. However, he ran on the explicit promise that he was not that kind of politician, and that he despised that kind of politics. That was the trade-off, Obama claimed, for his lack of experience; he was therefore not infected with the dreaded Beltway Disease. Without that immunity, Obama becomes just another politician — and a greenhorn one at that, with no track record of success as a legislator and no experience as an executive or in the military.

Yeah, Obama promised change and he's already delivered. He's changed from an ant-war, anti-free trade, anti-gun liberal to a "much more reasonable" moderate. That's if you believe a word he says.Remember he never heard a word Wacko rev Wright said for 20 years
