The mass for Joaquin Balaguer.
Zoom Picture

SANTO DOMINGO.- In the activities to mark the six years since the death of former president Joaquin Balaguer, the leadership of the PRSC party asked to restrain the "uncontrolled hunger" to guarantee that organization’s recovery.

"Hopefully we the party leaders will manage to discard our overflowed and unlimited ambitions which so far have prevented its greater consolidation," said Joaquin Ricardo, nephew of the former leader and member of the party’s Political Commission.

He said a change of attitude is the best way to honor Balaguer, who died July 14, 2002, and preserve his legacy: a party in which a sector of the population feels represented.

Ricardo spoke by Balaguer’s tomb, where PRSC president Federico Antún Batlle and the leaders Ramon Rogelio Genao, Amable Aristy and Aníbal Páez also attended, among others.

A group of former leaders expelled from that organization and now allied to the ruling PLD party and president Leonel Fernandez, also attended a mass, organized by Héctor Rodriguez Pimentel, head of the National Hydraulic Resources Institute (NIDHRI).

What I find ironic is that anyone in their right minds would attend a "religious" service for a dead person, dead and probably just bones by now. Do they think that smoke, candles burning, chanting gibberish can change this deceased man's fortune; He's dead, for pete's sakes!
I thought that the Asians had a monopoly on Pagan rituals; But, I forgot the "Dominican" Roman Apostolic Catholics who have these masses in memory of dead people.
Rome sure knows how to spread its lies around the world effectively; There's over a Billion of these pseudo-Christians. Thank God for the Reformation, and the Protestant Movement; Even though it's practically dead now adays.
On another note, He will still be considered a "Muñequito de Papel", as I once called him as the OAS caravan of cars escorting him passed by on "El Conde" in 1961! No mass can change a life of crime and deceit! He stiffled free speech. He can't be turned into a saint now. Too late>. Sorry, Arzobispos y feligreces!

What can be expected, politicians honored each othes and the PRSC is in needs of prayers. Maybe they think that his in heaven sitting on the left side of God, since he can't sit on the right side cause we know who is there. The PLD is just as rotten as the PRD and all the rest of them. This men does not deserd to be honored instead he should be condemed and processed for all the crimes which he is responsible for, directly and indirectly. He was the worst politician the D.R. had. Many people like him cause he was an experts at deceptions, built houses and built some more -- pople are happy with that. They still using that same tactics. A rich country that goes out to begged. Thats not a great president -- have some dignity and be proud -- you don't need to begged. The church is famous for that -- another destroyer of life and an expert begger.

well, well, well,; Goulet actually agrees with Mr Jim Harrington that Balaguer did not want a black man running the country. when i wrote that point, you called it the slimy race card. Goulet, what is going on? are you beginning to see the light, or are you just coming out of the dark?

do you really believe that Balaguer cared about his politics more than his color? i think not. you must remember that Balaguer will go down in history as one of the most openly racist people to govern a state. just read some of his musings on the black man and you will see what i mean.

There is no doubt he was a racist...but do not underestimate his cultural disdain for Haiti which were Pena Gomez roots and the tilt of his politics did not help either.... That being said Balaguer " Trujillo Light " was cornered and Leonel was the best deal he could make

I liked Pena .. but a little bothered by that story about the cash brought back from New York .. wonder if that is true or something made up to discredit the guy .. rather dated links but still bothersome ..
