SAN CRISTOBAL. - National Police chief Rafael Guzmán announced heightened patrols in the zones of frequent crimes and at in areas where drugs are sold and guaranteed law and order in this city.

The official met with the representatives of the city’s barrios to design a strategy against crime, after a series of burglaries, holdups and other crimes plagued the city since last week, posing a danger to its inhabitants.

Many residents say one of the main problems is the microtraffic of drugs, freely sold in the barrios and the so-call Zone of Tolerance, where Guzmán said the police will patrol on motorcycles.

In that regard, senator Tommy Galan asked that the Tolereance Zone be dismantled and if necessary, transfer its cabarets to another place

He said the zone is where most drugs are sold and becomes no-man's land after 6 p.m., where allegedly even the Police cannot enter.

The police have NOT earned the respect of criminals who have more control over the barrio streets than authorities. Same stuff, different day and a different barrio. This is also the case in the barrio of Los Platanitos (Ensanche Caonabo) of Santiago near the Cibao Stadium and Children's Hospital. The politicians, police and DNCD all know the deal but police only come to collect bribes and shake down a few dealers for their cash but they allow them to keep the drugs to make more sales. The drug dealers are bad and the police are more corrupt and the DNCD are the biggest hypocrites on the planet.

There is no real war on drugs and it is sad the American authorities have been tricked by the acting job by RD Gov officials. The Pichardo family let by Choppo micro trafficks volumes of drugs from Haiti via children used as mules. His brother Chino owns the only and largest newly constructed apartment building in the barrio built with drug money.

Tigres become more powerful!

What's needed is.....
Place surveillance cameras in strategic areas and conduct information gathering, conduct under cover drug purchases and Identify your subjects, conduct surprise early morning mass sweeps with Police in full ARMED force, arrest them all. Confiscate there personal property, prosecute them and jail them. Driving by on Motorcycles in broad day light does nothing but waste gas, time and Human resources......... How about Police foot patrols in groups of 4 24/7 or placing Police right at the known locations [street corners] where drug purchases are being made. What will we do with all the JAIL BIRDS....Dress them in brite shocking orange jump suits and have them work in cleaning up there own neighborhood, of course under armed guard with orders to shot escapes....And no work, no food....WORK, WORKS.

Create a Super Secret Elite Police Force [cream of the crop] known only to very, very few, select and pick them from all over the Country and give them the best training, they will only conduct there operations in the cover of night, and once arrest are made and properties confiscated in large numbers, only to be sold and the monies made will then be used to fund more Law Enforcement.

Lets get real! the Dominican police lacks the fire power, manpower, and training to deal with common criminals; let alone any group with any sophistication.
Just look how they get run out of the capotillo.

Mrios, you are right on target!

But,. FranktheTank if the police lack the manpower than why are they in my barrio to shake down drug dealers for their monies (not their drugs)? "Give me money... or go to jail". Now, go sell more drugs on school routes, make new addicts and when I come back in a few days I want more money."

DNCD Notre is a few miles away in air conditioned offices and will not come to poor barrios of Santiago because ... "these people are too poor and they like to live with drugs, crime and addicition (even if they can not buy food) as they are all dogs!"

It is sad that US intelligence does not know the real deal that RD Gov top to bottom are rotten to the core. But, I can show you an honest RD police officier who refuses to pay the game of corruption because he is the one who gets WHACKED!

The RD needs more officials in power like me and Mrios because I would simply do what we discussed AND adapt the Saudi Arabian judicial system for repeat offenders!

I’m talking about “real police“, not the countless individuals who have botellas ,or the large numbers crooked officers on the force.

“The RD needs more officials in power like me and Mrios because I would simply do what we discussed AND adapt the Saudi Arabian judicial system for repeat offenders!”

Yeah right! That system has certainly worked wonders for them right.

By the way how are the Pichardo Bros

Kill them all. So what if Amnesty Int. protest? Our streets will be safer. We can kill the haitian kids begging in the streets but not the drug dealers. Whenever there is an increase in crime in an area is because the cops are looking the other way....the cops are part of the problem.

Secret police in a Latin nation, we all know how that turns out people...

I hear Rudy Giuliani is a security consultant, bring his ass over and he'll show you how to clean up an island. Plus a bonus side effect that would get him out of our politics.
