Hipolito Mejia during a hearing in the Baninter case.
Santo Domingo.- The colorful ex president Hipólito Mejía said Wednesday he’ll no longer remain silent and denounce “all the acts of Government corruption and barbarisms,” which in his view it’s committing, “in detriment of the people.”
Mejía said that during his term in office he neither killed nor stole, and therefore has no reason to remain silent. “I have neither stolen nor have I killed anybody, therefore, I have no reason to remain silent before so much roguishness of this Government.”
He said he thanks God and the Supreme Court for upholding the guilty sentences in the Baninter bank case “I’ve spent four years in silence. But from now on, I have the commitment with my people, my country and with God not to keep quiet on the damage that it’s causing to my fellow citizens.”
The former chief executive, who spoke for more than one hour in a gathering of journalists of the PRD party, listed what he considers his administration’s accomplishemts.
“History has initiated the blossoming of the truth,” Mejía said, after he thanked God and the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Baninter case.

HIPPOCRITO MEJIA. Sure, he never killed anybody himself .. he let his bodyguards do the dirty work .. people seemed to suddenly die along each and every route he took .. and that was just during his CAMPAIGN for President. Imagine how many others got whacked during his term in office. He certainly did a marvellous job killing his own country .. rarely around to manage the Dominican economy .. the BANINTER fiasco happened on his watch. While the Dominican economy was being dragged down into the pit of a global recession he was jet setting around the world and rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous. He also sent Dominican soldiers to Iraq .. fearing perhaps that Saddam might invade the Dominican Republic? He got embroiled in that hopeless war just to appease the Bush-Cheney Axis of Evil. Probably the first time in Dominican history that such an abomination has ever occured. Now he is going on a campaign to harass one of the best leaders we ever had. It's a free country or what?

Baninter, Plan Renove, the awarding of greenhouses to family and friends, the worst financial crisis ever, the peso at 55:1, the increase of drug trafficing including the landing strip, Pepe and his $6,000,000 in credit card usage, the list is endless. The worst, most corrupt President in the entire history of the DR has the nerve to criticize anyone? Can anyone think of anything good that happened during his tenure, we can all think of a lot of bad things. Puhleeeeeese. If there were any real rule of law in this country, this guy would be in jail, where he belongs.

Pepito should be on trial for all his stupidities. The thing is that Pepito was either corrupt, incompetent or both!!! What nerve. He is damaging the PRD beyond repair. The PRD should stand up and kick him out of the party, and the government should confiscate his assets.
But of course they won't b/c they don't want to be scrutinize after they leave office.

First of all this demon is a thief himself, those who applaud his return to any forum are cut from the same cloth. Only a fool would not agree that corruption is systemic in the Dominican Republic.

THe key question is, why hasn't the PRD denoouced this charlatan! Why not, b/c he paid-off so many people. I was in the PRD HQ during the campaign, and there was a PRD activist from Barrio Buenos Aires who kept telling me that Pepito was her "father."
Despite all the hands he washed and pockets he stuffed, the PRD must realized that Pepito caused them to fall from grace. How can anyone justify PLan renove? Pepito is detached from reality!
From: Dominican Republic, Cabrera, M.T.S.
Yet, let him criticize. If it reigns in the PLD corruption and mismanagement, that's a good thing. BUt the gov shoudl investigate Pepito's wealth.

Basta, What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Your homophobic comment just shows how ignorant people are about homosexuality.
Maybe Pepito was so incompetent because he was a bigot like you. Sorry for being so harsh, but discriminatory comments like yours need to be called out for what they are - HATE SPEECH. Please try to be more careful in the future.

Ok Hippo you didn't kill anyone with yours hands but you may as well of, with all your irresponsible actions and your pathetic ignorance.
Anyone can run for President but few can actually step up to the plate and hit it out of the park.

And what about your buddy ? Now you are happy he is in jail? and saying so publically.
Prior to the Baninter banking scandal, Alvarez Renta had accompanied former Dominican President Hipólito Mejía on many of his trips abroad, and was appointed ambassador to France on April 2, 2003.
