Santo Domingo. - The United States is the main destination of the drugs seized in Dominican Republic airports during the first half of the year, or 427.7 kilos of mostly cocaine, headed to that nation and Europe, said newspaper Clavegital.com.

Of that amount 342.6 kilos were confiscated when it was on the verge of being shipped to the U.S., and 319 kilos of that was cocaine, along with 14.1 kilos of heroin and 9.3 of marijuana, said Clave using National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) figures.

The drug was seized in Puerto Plata and Cibao airports, both in the country’s north, and in Samaná (northeast), Punta Cana (east) and Las Americas, in Santo Domingo. Other destinations for the drugs seized are Spain (42.8 kilos of cocaine), France (15.4), Ireland (8), Switzerland (5.9) Holland (5.8) and Italy and Austria in smaller amounts.

During the first half this year Dominican agents also confiscated 1.2 kilos of heroin headed to Puerto Rico. They also arrested 66 people in connection with the shipments, 49 men and 17 women in Dominican airports.

DNCD president Rafael Ramirez told the service Efe that international drug trafficking uses Dominican Republic as a “shipping lane” to Europe and the United States due to their pressure in other parts of Latin America. "When United States conducts an operation in Central America, South America and Mexico the drug traffickers look for easier routes such as Dominican Republic and Haití."

Woke up on the Wong side of the bed - not the "Wrong" side .. I am not even fully awake yet funny man .. when I wake up you will know .. you will find out who's cheek my tongue gets into .. you will definitely know it ..

The "drug problem" in the DR is directly related to the demand for drugs in the US .. US citizens need cocaine to wake up in the morning .. caffeine does not do the trick any more .. Pablo Escobar became more popular than Juan Valdez .. the DEA is busting up the traditional routes .. if you graduated from primary you can probably read a map .. the stretch of Caribbean between Colombia and the coast of Hispaniola is a very viable route for small aircraft ..

The volume of traffic entering DR airspace is overwhelming the country's resources .. they have to spend their scarce resources to deal with a problem that is not of their making .. it is a problem arising from drug crazed US citizens .. Dominican citizens are paying the price .. not funny at all bozo ..

The devil lives up north .. that's where all the cocaine ends up after it is air dropped over Dominican territory .. the devil needs cocaine, meth, crack cocaine, heroin .. snorted .. smoked .. injected into the veins of the devil .. take a long hard look in the mirror when you wake up in the morning funny guy .. you will see the devil himself .. yeah .. just keep powdering his nose funny guy ..

Meanwhile dozens of Dominican policemen and ordinary citizens have to suffer the consequences of your cocaine habit .. the DR must squander it's limited financial resources .. ignore it's own domestic problems .. just to put a minor dent in the cocaine traffic to the US .. why don't you just lock up all your citizens .. a maximum security prison .. where they cannot get their hands on the coke .. then we can breathe a little easier down here ..

The overwhelming majority of drug use is rereational, IE people with jobs and disposable income, The riddled addicts you see on street corners are a small percentage of overall Cocaine distribution most is consumed in college towns or by profesionals seeking a buzz, but the destroyed souls make a much better photo op for the law and order types to impose their flawed logic on the world.

Very true .. about the propaganda value of vomit smeared addicts with syringes dangling from their arms .. in fact one of the biggest druggies in the Estados Unidos still lives at that prestigious address on Pennsylvania Avenue .. that idiot must have been snorting it big time the day he decided he was going to get Saddam .. as was his good buddy Cheney .. and his other good buddy Rumsfeld .. The 3 Stooges .. and look where that got us .. a little recreational bombing in Iraq and Afghanistan .. "shock and awe" said a visibly delighted Rumsfeld as he informed the press of the laser guided bombs and cruise missles that killed children in their sleep .. very recreational use of drugs .. King George is now getting ready for yet another recreational bombing .. this time of Iranian nuclear installations .. very entertaining .. get ready to count Iranian bodies .. watch mothers cry over their dead children .. very recreational ..

The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University has done analyses of the nation’s prison population that show that 80 percent of felony inmates and juvenile arrestees either committed their crime while high on alcohol or drugs, stole money to buy drugs, have a history of drug and/or alcohol abuse and addiction, violated the alcohol or drug laws, or share some combination of those characteristics.

The reports of our analyses demonstrate that if all inmates and arrestees who need treatment received it and the success rate were only 10 percent, the cost of treatment would be recouped in a year, and thereafter the economic benefits in productivity, taxes and reduction in criminal activity would approach $10 billion a year.

Moreover, we would experience a dramatic reduction in crime since experts estimate that an addict averages between 89 and 191 crimes a year.

It is time to recognize that the war on drugs is simply not winnable. Prohibition didn’t stop people from consuming alcohol, and the war on drugs will never stop them from using drugs.

Until our policy makers come to grips with that reality, we will continue to suffer from a drug policy that creates a vicious black market economy and wastes billions of dollars on futile interdiction efforts.

Put this in your pipe and smoke it.

If it weren't for drugs what would the US do with all those over acheivers. Everyone would be way too smart no one would take a manual labor jiob

It is hard enough to find a good job when you get out of college just think if everyone actually studied.

Rock and Roll would have nevrer been as popular and how would "little guys" ever get laid by "hotties" way out of their league. without a bag of goodies to lure them.

Society needs a fair amount of losers and soceity drop-outs.

Life would be boring without the news of huge drug bust.

Oh yeah and what about all the law enforcement jobs it has created?

Doesn't sound so terrible now does it?

LMAO

No one will disagrree that it sucks when innocent people die in wars.

However Saddam was given the option to leave Iraq and avoid the entire thing.

We all know how that story goes , Iran has the same offer...

"Saddam was given the option to leave Iraq" says this brain dead worm .. Iraq was his country .. he had every right to be there .. regardless of how many people he killed .. Bozo the Clown in DC has sent over 4000 soldiers to their deaths in Iraq alone .. should he leave the US? that is the problem with you Gringos .. you think you have the right to invade and occupy any country in the world .. you invaded and occupied the Dominican Republic TWICE .. you always pick on weak countries that cannot effectively fight back .. why don't you try and invade CHINA? or RUSSIA? .. check out what will be in store for you .. remember the battle of the Yalu River ? .. maybe not because most of you are illiterate and can barely understand my little postings here .. remember Vietnam? it seems cocaine has wiped out your memory .. stop powdering your nose Gringo ..

It is still a limited problem .. mostly among those that have enough pesos to drop on dope .. marijuana is quite popular among the "Rastafarian" crowd and "gringitos" .. US and Canadian tourists are occasionally caught trying to sneak a few ounces in with their luggage .. recreational stuff most probably .. no idea what really happens to those bozos when they get busted .. La Victoria for a few weeks "vacation" ? .. deportation after a trial ? .. problem is that it takes years to get to trial .. unless you can afford to "shorten" the process .. it's not just the lives lost .. it is also serious damage to the heart and the brain .. the inevitable disruption of the economic system from very large quantities of cash that are not matched by any real GDP .. the negative example it sets to our youth .. that having large quantities of cash is all that matters .. regardless how it is obtained ..

But it is significant because Dominican authorities must allocate scarce resources to deal with a problem that is being created by American drug fiends .. Americans just cannot seem to get enough cocaine .. the Arellano-Felix cartel has been largely dismantled and replaced by smaller and less efficient conveyors along the US Mexican border .. less efficient because they spend more time fighting each other over turf .. since the expanse of Caribbean between the Colombian coast and Hispaniola is no major barrier? in come the little planes that drop their load on Dominican territory .. the violence that accompany this process has taken the lives of innocent civilians as well as Dominican law enforcement .. the drugs are slowly making their way onto the local scene .. there's your American Dream .. slowly making it's way to the Dominican Republic ..
