SANTO DOMINGO.- A Dominican deputy costs the taxpayers RD$24 million yearly, counting wages, per diem, fuel, travel allowance, vehicles, among other perks they give themselves.

The Senate and Chamber of Deputies cost RD$5 billion annually, said opposition political leader Sergia Elena de Séliman today, calling it “absurd and a crime,” since other entities, such as the State University UASD, languish for want of resources. “While the UASD’s deficit makes it difficult to cover the costs of a summer course, the deputies nonetheless raise their salary 50 percent and assign themselves a RD$100,000 bond for Mothers Day.”

According to Chamber of Deputies data a deputy’s monthly base pay is 175,000 pesos, which with perks reach around 342,568 pesos. Its Web site says the monthly wage is 175.474,65, with RD$35,094,93 in ‘representation expenses’; 45,000 in per dieem; an 87,000 compensation; travel allowance per session 60,000, and RD$10,000 per commission.

There’s no odficial data for the Senate.

According to the numbers, the legislators make about 116,000 pesos, but increased by 58,000 pesos in the past month, which some social and political sectors criticized.

Deputies president Julio Cesar Valentin admitted they increased their wages to RD$175,000, but argued that RD$43,973 are discounted in income tax; RD$17,547 for the Legislator Institute, RD$2,000 for a laptop and RD$1,500 for their Club.

The deputies’ salaries is threatening to break another scandal, after the Santiago lawmaker proposed a cap on the number of deputies and to mak Congress unicameral, because it’s become very expensive for taxpayers.

Political leaders and lawmakers agree on keeping the number of deputies stays at 178, though differ on structural change in the Legislative Branch.

Face the facts. Three drunks and a hooker could probably get as much done as these clowns, and for a lot less. (You need the hooker to make sure someone is there to screw the pueblo)

The deputies all need to be lined up outside the chamber , stripped of their clothes, and shot in live television. I think the message will be clear.

Just why do people complained, they are getting exactly what they want and deserved. D.R.'s people love to talked about how they are cheated and robbed, they voted for these people, they glamorised them. When they passed by in their fancy car, they want to be just like them, and hope their children become one just like them. Wow, $D.R. 175,000.00 pesos each and every month to baby sit dominicans and thats not counting what goes on behing the the closed doors. They are not the only ones in government that are violating and committing a criminal offensed on the populace, ita mafia that gives to and lets others grabbed as much as well, Hey, they got the money and this year they will have more than $250,000,000,000.00 - thats billions to distribute amongs them from only one source. The total intake will be close to a trillion pesos. What a poor country and don't talk about raising the minimum wage.cause they're in a crisis -- its a world crisis. How much true do you know ?

Shooting against a wall is too good - let them do those shit jobs that they consider below them, for the rest of their lives. For almost no money, see how they enjoy living that way. They would be a good constant reminder to others of what not to do.

This is one reason I prefer to have one man in charge. If he fails, you just shoot the swine and try to find a better leader. But at least the people know where to direct their anger. When you've got hundreds of these bastards all doing the same thing, it almost becomes normal and no one knows quite who to blame or indeed have it stopped. Its much harder to take down 200 of them, than one.
A school child can see why Parliaments, Senates and Chambers could be hotbeds of untouchable corruption. Its disgusting.

Bring back Mr T, he looked dapper upon his horse.
(When I say Mr T - I mean Trujillo, not the guy on the A-Team that won't travel upon planes and always says 'I Pity Da Fool')

We just keep getting raped over and over again by these thief’s, their only success has been the politicization every facet of Dominican life down to the people that sweep the streets at night.

Basta , Saturn public executions are to messy if they was only a way to get them to Guantanamo bay where they can just disappear.
