Super Tucano.
Zoom Picture

SANTO DOMINGO.- Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez said it’s urgent that the Government acquires the Super Tucano airplanes to fight against what he caked an increase in drug trafficking, despite Washington’s opposition.

Lopez, who participated in an Episcopal Conference in Quito, Ecuador, agrees with President Leonel Fernandez’s call for all sectors to join the Government’s search for solutions to the ills that affect the population.

The prelate laments that Congress has yet to approve the funds needed to buy the patrol planes, a request he said has become an outcry of all Dominican society. "I understand that the country cannot continue unprotected from this evil, the national territory needs to be protected and that’s why we feel that it’s time not only for the airplanes to be bought, but everything that’s necessary to confront narcotics traffic more successfully."

Lopez said the Dominican side of the border with Haiti is practically unprotected and the controls need to be doubled, even if the United States opposes the downing of airplanes. "The United States cannot speak much, because it doesn’t want the country to address the matter, especially the topic of the airplanes."

What we need is a wall between DR and Haiti! Secondly we need a good radar system and a stronger Marine/Airforce with the right resources to protect our territory from invasions of criminals and drug-traffickers.

Why have we not been able to protect our territory. If Puerto Rico can do it, so can we. The only thing needed is commitment from part of the government and allocation of the due resources.

Texas Bill,

I have always noticed that the church in the DR through Cardinal Lopez and others have tried to influence the government.

This is however the first time I seem to notice that they are trying to dictate the purchase of war equipment.

You gotta know something about Cardinals .. Popes used to lead TROOPS into WAR .. remember the time of the MEDICIS in Italy? .. which makes them more qualified than Bush-Cheney to WAGE WAR .. at least Bush served in the NG .. Cheney was too busy trying to get his PhD .. which he NEVER GOT.

From the Middle Ages to the birth of the modern Italian State in the 1870s, the men who served as the leaders of the Catholic Church held not only a spiritual and religious authority, but also a very real and temporal political and military power as the rulers and princes of a unique European state known as the Papal States.

Since the Cardinal is a rep of the Catholic Church here in the DR .. he is aptly qualified to select military equipment .. in fact if we are nice to him .. he could ask the POPE to buy the planes .. hence saving us $5.5 million per plane .. good idea huh?

This is a wake up call for all with a conscience. How can an ARCHbishop meddle with defense procurement, or logistical maneuvers, unless it's cause he's superior to the puppet president of the Vatican.
The drug trade is headed by the Knights of Malta, a extremely high order in the Catholic religio-political structure. It's also known as the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, which is one step below the infamous Jesuits, the men who really foment wars, and strife throughout the world with the ultimate goal of world domination: AKA The New World Order.

All these factors contribute to the current war in Afghanistan. Where poppy production has skyrocketed since the US invasion. Also, the Vietnam war was partially about poppy. So, it's no coincidence that the bishop speaks so boldly. He's playing the good cop, in the good cop-bad cop game. Lip service so "they" think he's tough on drugs. Some know the real deal!

Like I said about McCain: "You can't be pro-choice, and be pro-war". Saving lives, and destroy others in the same breath? In this article you have a Roman Catholic advocating the purchase of military aircraft to be used to shoot down other planes. Or, is it for another purpose? Who knows? All I say is this man has no business in his clerical capacity calling for military materiel purchases....None whatsoever. Or, does he?
Lopez Rodriguez: Stick to the Monaguillos, and the 'holy' water; You don't want to blow your cover. Reveal your true identity: An agent of Rome, roaming in the Caribbean nation of the Dominican Republic. I chose to call it Quisqueya to distance it from the clutches of that fierce red beast, the vatican. So, all eyes on "him', he might just be the regional tounge of the holy see. The man behind the figurehead!

Everyone knows this is not an easy problem to solve, the US has lots of experience with this problem they've thrown all kinds of resources to deal with it, but nothing they've tried has really worked out.

A country with very limited resources like the DR sometimes has to make difficult choices, we have to do something now even if is not the perfect solution before it gets completely out of hands.
shooting the planes alone won't solve the problem, but it will help cut down traffic by air.

until somebody comes with a better plan, I stand by the cardinal.

What's flying over everyone's heads is; Why is a Cardinal (Hinge man) making a case for the purchase of fighter prop-job military aircraft? I'm an U.S. Air Force veteran. I find it so outlandish for this to occur. It's like the 'bus boy' in a restaurant sending the 'chef' to the fish market to get more Lobsters! Apparently, the Dominican Constitution though patterned after the U.S.'s, failed to include the principle of Separation of Church and State. However, we can see that the Roman church is making advances even in the (Secular) U.S., as demostrated by the triumphant whirl-wind tour of Benedict last visit in April, this year. They pratically bowed down to the almighty roman deity. So, my point is that the Vatican and its tentacles control not only the drug trade, governments, the oil (prices) industry, the military industrial complex, but quite soon the whole world. Prepare for more outbursts coming from the "Church of Rome". They'll soon be calling for heads.....again!

from the look of things, Carbelk99 is hard and fast in training for an upcoming defense of his title as World's Most Ignorant Human. some of our other posters promise to make it a daunting challenge, but, if i were a sporting man, i would place a heavy wager on him to win by knockout. he opines that black equals violence; might he tell us who gave the world such pacific interludes as the crusades, the 30 years war, the 100 years war, WW1, WW2, the Korean War, Vietnam, and , not unimportantly, who dropped atomic bombs on civilian targets. at least carbelk serves to debunk his own myth of the superior intellectual abilities of caucasians, and their affinity for peace. and, dear Carbelk, in the event that you might want to rewrite history, first you should learn it, and secondly, you might consider learning to write! it is your absolute sovereign right to be a racist neanderthal, but you do your fellow travellers a grave disservice with your idiotic musings.

Oh crap everytime I think of the miss opportunities we had, I want to cry. All you F@ heads dominicans had to do was to stick with us a little longer and once we had paid that shameful debts our nation together would have gained even more in return because our people would have invaded Jamaica and the rest of the islands. THAT WAS THE F@ king PLAN you, you, rrrgggrrrr.... Ban nam' MERDE. Yeah I said it "YOU PEOPLE" betrayed us in 1844 with your little BS indenpendence tactics while we were paying for YOUR FREEDOM.

And Don't tell me that your were never slaves BS either. because the Spaniards even enslaved their own so for some reason I can't imagine the Tainos and the Spaniards back then were just sitting around the camp fire smoking their pipes like equals.

Not only did "YOU PEOPLE" betrayed us in 1844 you did it again and again by repeatedly inviting your former masters to retake the island that OUR HAITIAN FOREFATHERS have died for in order to set you free. and it cost us Haitians lost of money to retake back Santo Domingo each time. YOU PEOPLE should be ashamed of your independence. For me it only reminds me of the day we could have been great together but instead we are nothing but two magots nation in the face of the world.
