SANTO DOMINGO.- Ex Police colonel Lidio Nin Terrero, arrested December 18, 2004, and extradited to the United States on charges of trafficking 1,387 kilos of cocaine allegedly owned by ex Army captain Quirino Paulino, agreed to a plea bargain of 61 months in prison and the possibility of parole, in the biggest drug bust ever in Dominican Republic.

The agreement stipulates that if Nin meets all the requirements he’ll be eligible for for parole in 48 months, but could be deporteed after December 18, considering his time alreadty served.

The lawyer Tomas Castro confirmed the information, and said the driver Tirso Cuevas Nin, who was driving the truck carrying the drug, had also negotiated a 61-month prison sentence.

The other codefendants are Ramon Perez Ferreras, Juan Cruz Crisóstomo, Richard Mejía Peña and Jose Abel Burdiez have already entered a plea-bargaining in the case that also includes Faustino Peroso, Federico Miranda Hernandez, Jose Ortega  Leon, Marcos Taveras Jiménez, Luis Eduardo Cordero Rodriguez, Bladimir Garcia Jiménez, Fátima Henríquez Diaz, the twins Luis David and Jean Paul Ulloa and Juan Samuel Rodriguez Cordero.

Paulino, who’ll be represented by Lawrence F. Ruggiero, is scheduled to appear before judge Kimba Word on Tuesday, together with several others, in Manhattan’s South District Federal Court.

Where is this man going to live when he gets out of jail if he drops the dime? He is as good as dead. I hope he has made funeral plans.

He should go to Papua New Guinea after he gets deported, if he can make it home to pack and say goodbye. He's done the day he gets to DR...

how does an accused " agree to a plea"? i thought that it was the state that agrees to the plea from the defense attorney. the state does not offer pleas; it is the defense attorney who cuts the deal. the plea is usually accompanied by snitching on someone else. maybe this guy decided to give somebody up, in exchange for leniency, but he does not get to "agree" with anything!

not necessarily Dread ,often they agree to a lesser charge rather than face trial at a more punishable offense saving time and money and sometimes a roll of the dice...but in this case they probably sold a few bodies hopefully.... The bigger this round up the better....Also Leonel should publicly support the testifying of subpoenaed witnesses who reside here in the DR....they are tainted if they do not cooperate....Those guys are gonna need those helmets when they come back

He doesn't seem to be as important as the those he is ratting out. That is why he's able to cop a plea. This just shows that the justice system is no better there than here in the states or anywhere else.
