SANTO DOMINGO.-The presidents of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe, and of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez have confirmed their presence and will meet in the Dominican capital for the second time this year, when they attend the inaugural of their colleague Leonel Fernandez’s third term August 16.
So far the presidents of Taiwan, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Haiti and of the Spanish Government, the Spanish prince, and Belize prime minister Dean Barrow will also be present, whereas others have yet to confirm.
Fernandez said he warmly asked Uribe to "be with us in this occasion and he has pledge it so. He was with us in 2004 and I was also in his inaugural in Colombia."
Uribe and Chavez took center stage in the Rio Group Summit held in Santo Domingo in early March, where Fernandez managed to get them and Ecuador president Rafael Correa to “shake hands” on the conflict prompted by the Colombian Army’s incursion into the latter’s territory.

It's a shame that all of these people, and many others are coming to pay tribute to a man who has chosen to look away from the problems facing his country.

Chavez latest antics
CARACAS, Venezuela — President Hugo Chávez is using his decree powers to enact a set of socialist-inspired measures that seem based on a package of constitutional changes that voters rejected last year. His actions open a new stage of confrontation between his government and the political opposition.

I know but we can dream ....everybody wants to be in Miami because it is so close to America
From: United States
I think gas is only 6-cents a gallon in Caracas .. it's close to $6 a gallon in Santo Domingo .. what Venezuelan would want to pay those prices .. not to mention chronic electricity blackouts .. no Santa Margarita Island .. no Chavez to "inspire" them .. it's gotta be really tough "back home" for somebody to risk a cruise across so many miles of ocean .. just to illegally enter the DR.

I listed a condo in the DR to barter once and a guy with a property on Margarita Island wrote me. I laughed and said "NO THANKS, I want no part of Hugoland". How or why anyone would purchase a 2nd home or anything in that country now is beyond my imagination
From: United States
You should have gone after that slice of Margarita Island .. Hugo is not going to last forever .. after the US is finished with Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Japan, Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Niger, Australia, Canada, Greenland, Norway, Iceland, Italy, Sardinia, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Brazil, Argentina, Guatemala, Ecuador, Tierra Del Fuego, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia .. they will get him .. no way he can get away with nationalizing US oil companies in the Orinoco without paying the ultimate price .. he's going down .. arrested and sent to Guantanamo as an enemy combatant .. he will be "water-boarded" .. a mild technique to loosen him up and help him talk .. no no no .. it's not torture .. it's just a little coaxing .. you know .. encouragement .. a gentle little shove to help him learn English.

You got the "Bull by the Horns" there pardner .. I had no idea you had an advanced degree in that discipline .. it is an honorable profession .. I may be entirely mistaken.. as usual .. but I think there is a widely read Journal out of either Amarillo or Lubbock that puts out the latest scientific discoveries in that most "sticky" of fields .. and yes many a great politician has tiptoed their way through the labyrinthian passages of the business .. I would like to protect the guilty so no names .. if I did I could go on and on until the "cows came home" .. if you get the drift..

Belial,
I presented articles that offer the story from the representative of the largest trade union (union=representation of workers, the common folk) I presented two articles in English and one in Spanish. The same laws that he enacted that they are complaining about were voted down during a general election in December. The problem with people like you, Chavez, Morales, Correa, and Raul is that you dont care what the masses want, it is what one person wants. Your lopsided view of the world is through an ideaolgy that is all but dead because it is proven not to work. If you can comment on stories from the press here as being factual why can you not accept what is presented by that press as being factual. Bottom line --as you always say, the workers will overcome and will throw of the yolks of the oppressive bourgeois, the story says just that. So what is it do you argree with what you always spout which is what the story is about or just to disagee with everyone else.

I guess that I could call you a Kipper. In certian parts of the UK they also have another name for a Kipper and it is.......A two faced gutless bastard. So here you are again defending the masses yet not defending the masses. You should really pick a side, a moral stand and stick with it consistantly at least that way it will show what you are really made of. Or is it because like most far left leaning idiots your just here to pi$$ people off. In which case move to Cuba or Dufar or Sudan, somewhere where they will welcome your ideas before hacking off your head because you are not like them after all.
