Santo Domingo.- The President’s Adviser on narcotics today reiterated his allegation that the Dominican authorities are involved in drug-trafficking, just two days after he warned that the Government isn’t doing enough despite his reiterated warning to president Leonel Fernandez himself.

Marino Vinicio Castillo (Vincho) said “all institutions have been infiltrated by drugs, despite the fact that there are “good Dominican laws” against drug trafficking. “One of the problems we have in the war against drug trafficking is the extensive area that exists in Dominican Republic without radar coverage.”

The official, interviewed by Cesar Medina on Colorvision's Hoy Mismo program, said among the setbacks Dominican authorities deal with is the "historically" weak drugs Police, which he said are often involved in kidnappings and extortion.

"Dominican authorities are involved in drug-trafficking," DT reports.

0000

But US authorities in the DR are more involved in drug-trafficking as well as Colombian authorities in the DR.

Why aren't they mentioned, too?

I agree ..why can't the Prez LF & RD Gov do anything?

Why can't the US, its embassy ambassador Fannin pressure he RD via threatening a toursim boycott (along with support fof EU & Canada who ALL are the reciepents of drugs)?

Fannin was briefed on RD corruption & drug issues before he even took office. Where is he at on this issue since he is there in the capital? These stiff shirts are too busy wasting our taxes via planning high-priced tea parties rather than working improved relations for Dominicans & Americanos. RD inflation is due to price gouging despite DR-CAFTA lower/eliminated tarrifts!

It's true, some US DEA have been found involved in drugs & thus relieved of duties BUT oftentimes charged accordingly. But the reality is US authorities in drugs is the "exception" to the rule...Whereas RD Gov officials being engaged in drugs are the "general rule" not the exception.

Prez LF if more concerned about keeping his network in tact than RD society overall & the poor.

Is there some documentation on the US DEA agents involved/. I am curious , I missed that article.

Lets not blame the US to much because everyone complains when we interfere and blames us when we don't. Besides what do we know about controlling drugs? May be better off to get Sinapores help or maybe not.

So far, the steps to loosen up have been small. Last year, the government ended a 13-year ban on chewing gum but only for medical use. Bungee-jumping and bar-top dancing were recently allowed and laws criminalizing oral sex are under review.

carbelk99, that comment was very racist. And most of all extremely ignorant, it shows stupidity on your part by the way. I mean really most real Dominicans have African blood in them, I have dated the whitest Dominican girls and I could still tell they had black blood in them.
He is not the only person that is not Dominican posting on this site; we have a lot of Americans, white Americans, Cubans and Europeans. If they have the right to post so should he and there are a lot of Haitians in DR. who do you think does all the work?

You should do a DNA test, you might find some of that BLOOD YOU HATE SOO MUCH INSIDE OF YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!

"U.S. law enforcement has detected a wave of flights that depart Venezuela and drop large loads of cocaine off the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, "
Written by: dreadlocks, 2 Sep 2008 8:09 AM

and i guess because the flights originate in Venezuela, they are conducted by Venezuelans. when dealing with united states press releases, i believe nothing i hear, and 20% of what i see. like it or hate it, the USA has cemented its place in history as having the greatest liars in government.

Maybe.
But there they are passing through Ven. airspace with impunity. Considering all of the Military hardware Chavez has bought only a fool would believe that he doesn't know about it.

so then, anthonyc, i guess we can stretch your " logic " to express the idea that all flights originating out of the USA are being operated by americans. i mean, look at all the military hardware in america.

You can safely assume that planes leaving US airspace have been approved by the FAA. IF you know anything about flying you would know you can't fart in US airspace without filing a flightplan.

Anyway these Ven. Flights are ORIGINATING out of Venezuela. Something that didn't happen much before Chavez and his love affair with the FARC.
Written by: dreadlocks, 2 Sep 2008 11:37 AM

well, anthonyc, since, to use your terms "you cannot fart in american airspace without a flight plan", could it be that nefarious actors from the USA are using airspace in which flatulence goes undetected, such as Venezuela? or what about some boys from other parts of the world, who are into international drug movements? how about maybe some russians, or other international crime syndicates? to insinuate a connection between venezuela and flights originating in venezuela is tortured logic!

I am not talking about who is on the planes.....Jeez.

I am stating that Drug Flights originating from Venezuela and then dropping their shipments in the D.R. have increased dramatically since Chavez took power.
These planes are originating in Ven. airspace and flying through Ven Airspace.

Are you suggesting that members of the Chavez Government are totaly oblivious to this?

nobody says that north was selling drugs on the street. what implicates him is his connection to guys like Michael Palmer, the notorious weed smuggler, who received 300.000 dollars for the use of his aircraft in the affair. i know that you read the classified documents when you were with the pentagon, but the truth is there for all who wish to see it. it is all over the internet. when the iran contra situation got muzzled by the boland amendment, a lot of the funding came from drug activities. go look at some of the information on wikipedia, and you tell me if he had nothing to do with anything!

Wiki is an online user made encylopedia. While a good reference for further reading it is by no means garenteed acurate. In Fact a good portion of information is written by businesses or organizations to get them selves more exposure. If you look up almost anything DR related it links you back to DR1. I do not have a problem with WIKI. I just know it is not peofessionally written

if you read my post carefully, you will notice wherein i used the term "basic". the important aspect of it is that it cites reference texts which you can access in order to get different aspects of the issue. nobody says it is reference material. and, no reading material is " guaranteed accurate". to the best of my knowledge, all material is written by humans, and, as we all know, all humans have their own axes to grind.

many of the posters who have departed did not agree with me. we never always agree on things; that is too simplistice a view of the world. but at least those guys framed the discourse within structural parameters, making for issues which could be rationally ventilated. Belial takes a beating from so many people on this forum for his political leanings, but, like him or leave him, he never makes an assertion without references to articles, and the insertion of data. that allows people to counter with contrary information, making for spirited, meaningful, and educative discourse. at the end of the day, you have learnt something. if the only benefit i expect to derive from this site is to exercise my fingers, i will buy nintendo. the site has descende to the level of kindergarten sandbox, with ad hominem, blatantly partisan postings which serve no purpose but to clutter the broadband. why do you think some of the heavyweights have given up and left?

i would not watch sarah palin if you paid me. she is just a counterfeit copy of hilary clinton, just not half as formidable. what kind of person advocates abstinence, not sex education, as the way to reducing teenage pregnancy? the usa has the highest rate of unwanted pregnancy in the developed world, but this loser feels that promoting abstinence, not education, is the answer. well, if you cook something in your home, and it tastes like crap, don't bother giving me the recipe. her abstinence mantra failed in her own home, so, why is she arrogant enough to advocate it for others. Nancy Reagan gave us her famous "just say no" statement about drugs thirty years ago. i guess that blunted the drug problem more tha did education, rehab, and all the other initiatives!
