SANTIAGO.- A small boy kidnapped Monday night in the El Embrujo sector and rescued today 50 miles west in Mao, will be returned to his relatives once the team  doctors of and psychologists conclude their evaluation today, said the authorities in a press conference.

Santiago Prosecutor Jenny Reynoso said the son of San Agustín and Luz Jiménez appears in good physical state, but an extensive physical and psychological evaluation is required, whereas Police spokesman Nelson Rosario said Police chief Rafael Guzmán, who is in Colombia, instructed him to reveal there are six people being held in connection with the kidnapping, although only four will be charged.

Rosario said the kidnappers had demanded one million pesos in ransom, but didn’t get any money, as was the case of Eduardo Baldera and others he affirmed the Police have solved. He added that Guzman wants the citizens to know that the “kidnapping industry” will not be allowed in this country.  “I will not allow under any circumstance that the kidnapping industry is restored and prospers in the Dominican Republic.”

Guzmán, who spoke today prior to agathering of Police chiefs from Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean, said kidnapping cases have affected democracy, the economy, tourism, foreign investment and the quality of life in some nations and he’ll not allow the same to occur in the Dominican Republic.

The key is to nip it at the bud as early and soon as possible to prevent it to become a growth industry as is common in Mexico, central and south america or many countries around the world. Dominicans tend to be copy catters and what I suspect is that the vast majority of these perpretrators are nothing but a bunch of amateurs that don't know what they are doing and who really are just but wannabe kidnappers and thus want to make an attempt, give it a shot, try their luck at a new vocation. Kidnapping is something still relatively new for the DR. Let us just hope that we don't get any trainers coming in from Mexico, Colombia or El Salvador then we really know we will be up in sh...t's creek without a paddle. Como el Niagra en bicicleta.

Ay vacanos no me diga eso, mi hermano y yo le acabamo de conprar una casa a mi querida madre en el embrujo dos.

The house is one of the new construction towards the back and it is in one of the dead ended streets. It is a big white house with red mediterranean roof tiles. Tell your dad to go see and he can become another source to us in addition to los ladrones que duran tanto para terminar el trabajo.

Blut,

"Ransom of Red Chief", now that's a great O'Henry story; in fact, one of my all time favorite. It is second only to Taylor Caldwell's: "the Captains and the Kings". Latter one should be mandatory reading for everyone here-really!

Anyway, thanks for reminding me of one of my favorite stories.

Hard to figure out this story.

Not much known or said about the family.

Certainly, a million RD dollar is not much money.

Either perpetrators were just hungry local boys, or this was maybe a practice run for bigger things to come.

I have problems with a police force who couldn't find its big toe inside its shoe suddenly solving two kidnapping incidents in record time.

Could this have been a staged PR stunt? Guess we'll never know, but it wouldn't surprise me.

What about the six people in custody, with only four to be charged? What, only two bribed their way out of this mess?

Anyway, God help DR, for LF and Nicky certainly can't.

Bastille day is coming, I am sure of it. Please make sure all lamp posts are securely bolted down, so efficiency could be assured when the hangings begin.

Only reason it was solved was because they weren't given the cut they wanted.
