Santo Domingo.- The Metropolitan Transit Authority (AMET) today announced that its agents have retained 1,148 vehicles including cars, trucks and light trucks nationwide, for using the public thoroughfares without their license plate label, “in frank violation of Law 241” on traffic, just hours after the renewal deadline expired.
AMET states that the vehicles were immediately towed to its impound lots located in the old El Coco greyhound track; in the Santo Domingo East sector San Luis, and inside in its precincts around the country, and would be returned when their owners show up with the legal documents.
It added that most of the vehicles were retained in Greater Santo Domingo with (740), followed by the regions East (133), South (67), North (145), and Northeast (63).

Good job. People need to follow the laws and regulations. The disorganization that has plagued the DR for so long is the reason we are not developed yet. Americans complain "government this and that...the government wants to control everything.."etc, but this is the reason why the United States is a developed country and has been for so long. The key to development is enforcement of the rules that contribute to a more cohesive society!

maybe, the search and seizure should extend to cars with no brakes, lights, and pollution controls. then we would be getting somewhere. we can rent Puerto Rico to use as the impound lot.

a very insightful remark, glomar. it appears that only the cars of the "little people"( as Leona Helmsley would say) have been impounded. i wonder why? should we deduce from this that the owners of gargantuan jeepetas suddenly found a sense of discipline and social responsibility? or is it that they had a little more cash on hand when they were confronted by AMET?

You need a lor of cash for Amet, because Papicho might let you go for RD$300.00, but there's Llobany on the next corner, and then Camasutra on the next block.
Better walk to work, 'manito..

You don't see expensive vehicles in the impound because the well-to do sends the chauffeur or servants to do those type of incovenient tasks. Have you ever seen them standing in line for anyhing that the average Joe has to do?

Amber,
Unlike some here, and I do not especially mean you, I do not hate the rich, and I will tell you why. I can't remember the last time a poor person created a meaningful job. It is always the rich, risking their capital, who create jobs. Yes, it is the province of the underprivileged to envy, despise the rich; however, operative word here should be envy.
Clearly, in many countries such as USA, the rich use very little services, yet they are taxed severely and in many cases run out of town. They send their children to private schools, from K to college; they don't use welfare; they never claim unemployment; they don't go to the emergency room for headaches; they pay their credit card bills; etc.
Ever been to Providence Rhode Island? I rather have the rich back in their mansions than all the riff raff roaming in the beaches at present.
Anyway, the rich are better for us than you would think. Let's be kind to them...it could really help us in long run.

As was noted you can send someone to get the marbet, you can order it online and it was delivered in less than a week. NO excuse to not have it after 3 months. Earlier it took all of about 5min. and 1200 pesos to get the marbet. Now your got to go to DGTT and pay the 1200+600 late fee then go get your car. Hell makes sense to me.
AMET normally does not take propina, they are not the PN.
Really some of you people with US address's with all the comments about the DR either need to move here so you know what relly goes on rather than just gum beating, about something you have heard of. .

Nope Josean just have lived here long enough to see what preceded him. And it was not pretty. Remember Balaguer selling all the sugar(1990) so it was rationed. Gas lines you would not believe (1991). No electricy at least 8hrs a day every day (90-92) "used to leave the lights on so would wake up to do laundry" 51 to 1 (2004)exchange rates under Hippo. just to name a few
out of hundreds. Oh forgot Balaguer president of the country receiving 8mil peso's a month for salary jajajajajajaja
And Xwill7 always a few bad apples, that includes the ones drinking while driving. But the norm at least here in the Capital is they "DO NOT TAKE PROPINA". We are talking about the guys in Green right, not the ones in Grey. Your know this for a fact or are you repeating something you heard?
