Santo Domingo.- Antinarcotics agents arrested a Mexican and a Colombian in a hotel in the Colonial Zone last night, in connection with the small plane seized in a sugarcane filed near Higüey (east), bringing to nine the drug trafficking suspects detained so far.
Daniel Colorado and Oscar Rojas were taken to the Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) and then for arraignment to Higüey, where a judge has ordered six suspects to spend six months in jail.
DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebrón said Colorado and Rojas were staying in a hotel on the corner of the Duarte and Conde streets, where the agents and an Assistant prosecutor went to search the foreigners’ rooms.
The Colombians Pedro Gabriel Alonzo, Alexander Vásquez and José Luis Moreno, the Venezuelan José Eltinio Vivas, the Dominicans Jorge Castillo (El Gordo) and Wilkin Conde Sosa are still being held in the case, whereas the Haitian William Boyer (La Rata), was released on bail.
FILE.- The Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) yesterday announced it arrested four more men in the sugarcane fields at the village Palo Bonito, in connection with the single engine plane seized in Altagracia province (east) Wednesday morning.
The Colombian Jose Luis Moreno, the Venezuelan José Eltinio Vivas, the Haitian William Boyer (La Rata) and the Dominican Jorge Castillo (El Grande) were caught in the cane fields, where they presumably hid to escape after the authorities left the zone.
DNCD president Rolando Rosado on Thursday said he instructed a team from La Romana to search the entire area to detain other potential suspects, wheras his spokesman Roberto Lebrón said Forensics looks for traces of cocaine in the plane, as the investigation centers on the Cessna 206 registry number YV1133, allegedly Venezuelan, and its owners.
The official added that the detainees are being held in the DNCD precinct in Higüey.

I guess they either haven't paid off the right people or the amount was not high enough. Maybe this will teach them to pay the right people enough money. If they reconsider their files will be lost and once out on bail maybe some government officials can ride the private jet with them to make sure they get to another country safely.

It seems the reward far outstrips the punishment, so no wonder everyone is getting into the trade.
This is akin to total impunity.

The 6 months is preventive detention, not a jail term per se.
In a "normal" justice system, being denied bail means being detained for the duration of the legal proceedings until judgment on the merits.
Here, the judges fly by the seat of their pants, and throw wild guesses as to how long the proceedings will last.
Justice is known to be blind. I'm afraid in some instances it is also deaf and DUMB.

Yes Walter Polo , you are correct that the justice system here is somewhat unpredictable and men can be locked away on suspicion for months before a trial is conducted and I think this is a knee jerk reaction to the recent bail jumping case.

Legalize= we made millions and millions and the police catch nothing worth anything. They catch little throw aways and a few pesos of drugs. Do not be fooled, by oh we caught 10,000,000 pesos of drugs which I could buy the same amount for 9,999.us., They catch the Judas goats. Our expense is paying the upkeep of these little people and their families and health costs.
We the other hand pass 280,000 us whole sale passes through. Happens all the time. We do not need to corrupt anyone. They come to us and you have no idea how far up the cash goes. The police remove 20,000 and we pass a billion.

I suppose we can look at the bright side and at least the money paid up the line is being spent in this country even though I would prefer to have a drug free country

What about the artificial inflation these ill-gotten gains create? This free-flowing money raises the price and cost of everything, and honest and hard-working Dominicans cannot afford decent housing or to properly feed, clothe and educate their families. This is the hidden cost of the drug trade. Yes, it is definitely not a victim-less activity.
We must eradicate drugs and drug lords, no matter who they might be, even if it means speedy trials and public hangings and some vigilanterism. I would fully support this and would volunteer to hang a few of these criminals from nearest lamp post.
There must be someone of integrity left in the barrios, a natural-born leader who could take charge, hold court. Let's hang them quickly; the sooner the better!!!! Pay no heed to pacifists, for this action is of utmost importance to preserve country and way of life.
If we wait any longer, then there will be nothing left to save or fight for.

I was being a little facetious and I am totally opposed to the drug trade and drug use also ..I see the problems even outside my schools as dealers wait for students to leave school ..the police mercifully are often there to stop this ..
