SANTO DOMINGO.- The National Drugs Control  Agency (DNCD) seized 935 kilos  of cocaine in Boca Chica’s Caucedo Multimodal Port at 9 p.m. last night, the third major confiscation in this terminal in the last three years.

DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebrón said the operation was coordinated with Venezuela antinarcotics officials, and the drug was in a container headed to Spain, from that country.

He said the drug had been "carefully prepared to deceive the control mechanisms, but it was impossible because the intelligence organisms were behind that case two months ago."

DNCD president Rolando Rosado said arrests are imminent in the country, in the point of origin and the drug’s final destination as well.

It’s the third largest cocaine seizure in Punta Caucedo in the last three years, the biggest being the little more than 2,500 kilos in September, 2006.

"This is the result of a joint operation begun a bit more than two days, the DNCD was tipped off by other international agencies and for which this shipment has been seized before the container was to be reshipped,” Rosado said in a statement.

The cocaine was taken to DNCD headquarters last night and will be taken to the National Forensics Lab for analysis today.

I am a little unease with the phrase "tipped off" and Venezuela Antinarcotis, and all this happen in two days, Venezuela and international agencies know more about what is going on in our own country, common people. If there were not other international agencies involved the drug could have arrived to its destination. It looks as if DNCD was forced to take action on the matter.

I suspect no one will be caught or pay for this, and that this was all staged to make everyone believe they are actually doing something.
