Fidel Castro quoted Leonel Fernandez on John Maynard Keynes
Zoom Picture

Correction in third paragraph, second sentence (add don't)

HAVANA. - Cuban leader Fidel Castro today praised Dominican president Leonel Fernandez, with whom he spoke and took a photograph this week in Havana and talked on world’s economic crisis and Latin American political topics.

In an extensive article published by official media, Castro says the Dominican leader is a good mathematician.

“The financial speculation reigns everywhere, affirms Fernandez quoted by Castro- In speculation people intervene who don’t produce. Somebody sells petroleum that they don’t produce and somebody buys petroleum that they don't plan on consuming. The same happens with foods. That occurs with everything."

The Dominican chief executive, according to the Cuban leader, added that "neoliberalism crumbles on its won. To return to the principles of Keynesianism doesn’t solve the current crisis. That implies the search for new ideas," and added that he defines Fernandez’s thesis as he sees things: “Capitalism is a system that sweats poisonous toxins from all pores.”

“With the passion with which his voice is heard - the article adds - I deduce that the Yankees will curse the Arithmetic that Leonel was taught in New York, when he learned to read and write."

To put the ball back in Fidel's court: Where did the Castro's big brother attend "Boarding school"?

Ramón Castro Ruz, older brother of Cuban presidents, Fidel and Raúl Castro, attended the Catholic boarding school Mount Assumption Institute.

Blockade what blockade ? according to figures from the U.S. Department of Commerce (that one would surely hope the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations could easily access!) the U.S. transacted $710 million with Cuba in 2008, and has transacted more than $2 BILLION worth of business with Cuba in the last eight years. Currently the U.S. is Cuba's biggest food supplier and 4th biggest import partner. The U.S. has been Cuba's biggest donor of humanitarian aid including medicine and medical supplies for decades

are you sure about the "debtor nation thing, GC?

No concept lies more firmly embedded in our national character than the notion that the USA is "No. 1," "the greatest." Our broadcast media are, in essence, continuous advertisements for the brand name "America Is No. 1." Any office seeker saying otherwise would be committing political suicide. In fact, anyone saying otherwise will be labeled "un-American." We're an "empire," aren’t we? Sure we are. An empire without a manufacturing base. An empire that must borrow $2 billion a day from its competitors in order to function. The U.S. became a debtor nation again in 1987 and has been the world's largest debtor nation since. The international debts of the U.S. are more than $8 trillion and growing, at the rate of $1 trillion every 21 months. For years, we have been financing our standard of living with other people's money, and one of our biggest bankers is China.
Yet the delusion is ineradicable. We're No. 1

The U.S. hotel market is in a slump, but the situation--like the weather--is a bit sunnier in locales like the Dominican Republic, where upscale accommodations are still in demand. Capitalizing on the market's viability, Philadelphia-based AMResorts has announced that plans to develop two new luxury resorts at Cap Cana at a cost of $200 million have just been approved by Cap Cana's board of directors.

Raul Castro recently pulled cabinet shenanigans and shuffled at least 20 officials in his cabinet, an act many viewed as a way to stay out of his brother's shadow.

Among those being sacked is the economic czar... Fidel Castro himself came out to back the dismissal, saying the bigwig has lost sight of Cuban interests.

Keynesian economics (also called Keynesianism, and Keynesian Theory), is a macroeconomic theory based on the ideas of 20th-century British economist John Maynard Keynes. It emphasizes the role of demand-side factors, as opposed to supply-side factors, in the determination of aggregate output.
Keynesian economics argues that private sector decisions sometimes lead to inefficient macroeconomic outcomes, and therefore advocates active policy responses by the public sector, including monetary policy actions by the central bank and fiscal policy actions by the government, to stabilize output over the business cycle...

GM just got 14 billion, pissed it away, and now is asking for 30 billion more, or , its curtains. so, give them 30 billion, and next month they need 40 more. they lost 63 billion last year, so it is not as if they are a viable concern. the you- know- what has hit the fan!! put 40 economists into the same room, you get 50 opinions on this mess. there is one concensus; the entire population of the USA was living on phantom money. now the ghost wants his due!

Mr Lautaro, protectionism helped to exacerbate the Great Depression, and it would be a disastrous plan at the present time. because it is a two way street. other countries would simply do the same to the USA, and that is the last thing it needs; restricted markets to an already anaemic productive machine. in the era of the Great Depression, it was just one more genius prescription from the Republicans
