Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.- The historian RobertIo Cassá dictated a conference to mark the 60th anniversary of the patriotic June 19, 1949 disembarkation on Luperón bay in Puerto Plata, in a failed attempt to overthrow Rafael Trujillo’s tyranny, and becoming the first armed expedition of exiled Dominicans who returned to theur country to put an end to the dictatorship.
The commemoration committee, headed by relatives and descendants of the heroes of Luperón -who more than a half century ago disembarked in the hydroplane Catalina- hosted several activities in their memory.
