President Fernandez returns from Panama and Nicaragua.
SANTO DOMINGO.- President Leonel Fernandez on Thursday said the emergency meeting in Nicaragua after the coup in Honduras made it clear that all of the continent’s countries have an unwavering will that democracy must prevail in the access to power.
The chief executive noted that Latin America’s nations have always aspired to this since they proclaimed their independence from colonialism in the 19th Century.
After citing the events which led to Cuba’s revolution, Fernandez warned against regressing to Latin America’s dilemma of coups versus revolutions, as those nations will only accept freedom and democracy. “The freedom and democracy over which so much was fought, for which so much blood has been spilled, and now that it’s here they cannot be lost, and I believe that with the Latin America Presidents’ emergency presence, and of the OAS Secretary General, is a lesson which is imbedded in the history of the struggles and suffering of our nations.”
Interviewed by the journalist Huchy Lora in Panama during Ricardo Martinelli’s inaugural, Fernandez affirmed that the only legitimate manner to reach power is when it emanates from the will of the people.

i find these words very empty when he altered the constitution , not the people , to allow him another term and now he wants to alter the constitution again without going to the people ..I have read the warnings given by the chief judge and leading jurists here in the DR all pleading that there be some checks against any President here in the DR but Leonel seems to want supreme power
Maybe Leonel´s interpretation of the democracy is that once he is elected he can do what he wants and this was the problem in Honduras when the President decided to defy the Supreme Court and the Congress ...it was not a coup but the Supreme Court requested the army remove the President as he was acting against the constitution ..maybe the Court should have simply asked the police to arrest him.
Either way proper and fair laws are just as important as democracy

Does this mean his "friend," Fidel Castro's government and that of his brother Raul are illegitimate or the French Revolution or the American Revolution? This guy is such a bag of wind!

I'm sure that DR has more capable people but at the moment he is there and no one else. Our history has not shown us that our country has an abundance of great leaders. Look at all the presidents of the past and you will be astounded to find none were even slightly more concerned for the people than the one we have now. What makes a good president? what is he suppose to do? is he suppose to stay in office for 4 years and try to get a 3rd world country fixed in that short time? I mean I would love to see the guy, not counting jesus christ, who could repair DR in 4 years. Let's start nominating.

A thousand got the answers
Minister of Education Melanio Paredes has been explaining how over a thousand students were sold the answers to the National Standardized Tests last week. He said the teachers used cell phones and received RD$1,200 for each set of answers. He named seven people, including a ministry employee from School District 15-04 and a teacher from the private sector.
Paredes said that the cheating was discovered during the first of the exams for high school seniors at the Antonio Garabito High School in Cambita, which belongs to School District 4-01 of San Cristobal, when four students were found with cell phones.
Pedro Rodriguez, the ministry's legal advisor, told Listin Diario that the students had handed in their cell phones at the door, while keeping another one hidden.

The discovery at Cambita unleashed a flood of information, because first of all, a young man was arrested with a notebook full of phone numbers and nicknames. "He crossed off the names of the people he managed to get the answers to."
One interesting piece of data revealed by the ministry's investigation showed that of those involved in the cheating, 217 did so on their Spanish test, 191 for the Social Studies test and 618 for the math test.
But that is how Lie-onel Fernandez probably made it through school himself!

Someone said "coup wont last longer than a cucaracha in a chicken coop"....well? It is now going on 4 days and it appears that Zeyala return has yet to be confirmed....I love politicos that shoot of their mouth before evaluating a serious situation. Every day that passes, Zeyala's case gets colder and his friends all have other issues to deal with. LF has been home almost 24 hours and has yet to make a public statement on Segura, Students Cheating on test, or even a review of what he accomplished on his 3 day jaunt to Managua & Panama. He was accompanied by his press sec. but little is ever reported to the dominican public.

Something is wrong when the tyrannical and illegal government of Cuba is admitted into the OAS but Honduras is threatened with expulsion.
Something is wrong when Ecuador supports Marxist terrorists that attack Colombia and Colombia defends itself yet Colombia is labeled the aggressor .
Something is seriously when poor Honduras is besieged in the name of "democracy " by leftist whores who don't believe in democracy ,while Iran is treated with kid gloves after stealing an election and murdering innocents.
Leonel should get the message ...Honduras is just the first in the wave of reactions to the lunatic fringe and just like in the past the leftists who squash all opponents when in power will cry like women and talk of "human rights" the same human rights they deny to those who oppose them.
