SANTO DOMINGO.- A cache of high caliber weapons was found in a hidden compartment in the back of a pick up seized Thursday in a search in the barrio Villa Mella, where 293 kilos of cocaine were also confiscated, a find said to reveal a link between hired killers drug traffickers in the country.
The delayed find occurred in the presence of several reporters, whom minutes before had arrived in the Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) compound for a press conference convened to provide details on the arrest of an ex convict linked to the drug trafficking network led by the fugitive Jose Figueroa Agosto.
DNCD president Rolando Rosado said the guns were hidden in such a manner that they weren’t detected in the first search, but after further digging, "there was something more" found- 8 assault rifles- four AK47s, one 5.51MM Match, one M16 A-1, one Match Terget and a FN Gerstal Belgium.
Also two automatics guns, one PS90, 22 caliber rifle with telescopic sight and a silencer, one Valtro, one Walther 22 with silencer, one Roger Magnum revolver, one revolver North American and two pistols, various types of ammunition with several clips, two official license plates, a bullet-proof vest and a hood.
Better equipped
The head of the DNCD said the "unprecedented arsenal” is proof drug traffickers are better equipped than the law enforcement agencies which combat them, although there’s a willingness to confront them.
For his part Police chief Rafael Guzmán said the finding of the weapons reveals a link between hired killers drug traffickers in the country.

Cops in MOST of the U.S.A. no longer carry revolvers or 9mm with the .40 or .45 becoming the caliber of choice in sidearms. Shotguns are found in almost every police car and in many big cities LEOs are allowed to buy an assualt rifle (AR-15 or comparable) for which they are reimbursed.
It's time the DR take the antiques from thier forces and equip them to do the job....and make no bones about it.....when confrnted by these dopers, it's kill them or be killed....they don't care, why should the cops....?
This could have been confronted earlier in the DR & manage better when it was in the infancy stages. BUT ... due to the "don't ask, don't tell" of RD Gov corruption from Prez LF down to local barrio police who get pay-offs from drug dealers... the corruption is as "rotten as a sick dog's vomit"!
Oh yeah btw, US DEA & Embassy officials are "clueless" and just collect a US Gov check.
It is sad to see micro-traffickers in my Santiago barrio (near Cibao Stadium) turn good kids into addicts while Gov officials on both sides plan tea parties to tell each other how "honored they are". It's the dog and pony show!
There is no real war on drugs! It is all window dressing. If CIA & US other agencies want to move drugs then they should at least balance the US Gov budget, legalize everything, monitor but tax it like prostitution in Vegas. Because what we have been to date is hypocrites!

There's trouble on the streets tonight, I can feel it in my bones
I had a premonition, that he should not go alone
I knew the gun was loaded, but I didn't think he'd kill
Everything exploded and the blood began to spill
So baby, here's your ticket, put the suitcase in your hand
Here's a little money now, do it just the way we planned
You be cool for twenty hours and I'll pay you twenty grand
I'm sorry it went down like this,
And someone had to lose,
It's the nature of the business,
It's the smuggler's blues
Smuggler's blues
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Just Like Miami 1980's
