Miguel Cocco.
Zoom Picture

All Dominicans will inevitably feel the death of Customs director Miguel Cocco, a loss evidenced in yesterday’s crowds that went to the funeral service on Abraham Lincoln avenue, which caused traffic to back up for blocks.

The Government declared Friday an official day of morning for Cocco, who passed away after 15 days under intensive care.

Cocco was combative, passionate and disarming. His steadfast stance against corruption isn’t just something in the press, and those of us who had the privilege to interview him on topics of his responsibility know this well.

Again we have a Dominican to be very proud of.

Cocco- If you had done business with the customs Mafia than you would not be so happy. Just as Mandela is a hero and Beign and G.Washington. Bull!

In other words , Abraham Lincoln truly loved the black american slaves he set free as well ? and J.F.K was truly anti-communist except when he was staying in Battistas penthouse suite with a Cubana rubbing his shoulders.?

No neither was true and JFK was a swine and oh yes let us not forget Stalin and Chairman Mao who never bathed or brushed his teeth. Heroes to the end. The only honest politicians in recent history were Hitler and Stalin. They did not want money; they just wanted to kill everyone.

True . Even if they never changed thier underwear or the oil in thier hair , atleast they were true representations of what thay stood for . It would be much easier to tolerate these pigs if they would just look straight in to the cameras eye and say '' bend over '' and hold on to your ankels my fellow citizens..

When Juan Bosch saw the PRD had lost its way he left and formed another party. With all do respect, Mr. Cocco stayed in the corrupt PLD to the end.

How can anyone be so moral and remain in cesspools like the PRD, PLD and PRSC?

He may have been a good man on a personal level, but you are either part of the problem or part of the solution.

Juan Bosch was part of the solution! Mr. Cocco was part of the problem!

Let’s not let our emotions and compassion cloud objective historical reality!

I didn't know this guy but as a frequent traveller to DR my experience was that the constant badgering for a little $ to expedite your experience thru customs has pretty much ceased.

There is no MONEY in a "solution". Thats why many of the issues we deal with in Hispanola will never be completely resolved. If in 1965 Juan Bosch was allowed to proceed with the general needs of La Republica Dominicana what difference would have outcomed? It really is a shame ...not just for La Patria but for all that must endure the difficulties. Cocco played his part and did whatever he did. I dont have too much nice to say about him because like all government its partial and does not serve all. I will always feel this way. The inequality is my problem and the "BEHAVIOR" individuals bring forth to represent the ideals are also misrepresented. ADELANTE LA PATRIA

I wonder if any of you are even capable of maintaning a political career. God's will be done. As far as I can say with evidence. That man did a good thing for a country he could have just as easily considered some one else's problem. Grow.
